i agree there is no such thing as black and white names....it drives me nuts because people have said that to me before about certain names as well, more so saying its a spanish name. I just think its crazy and you should choose whatever name you feel will fit your baby best. People also assume that names are ugly because they are different, different doesn't = ugly
i too am black and there are names that are common for a certain group of people than others. but if you like it thats all that matters and don't get offended by someones own opionion if thats what you feel you want to name your baby boy then go right on ahead. it kind of grows on you though i like it.
There is no such thing as black and white names. That woman needs to have a reality check and quit living in the 50's. I cant stand stupid people like that. Yes, there are different origins of many different names, but that DOES NOT make it one nationality or black or white. I am so sorry you have such a closed minded woman living upstairs from you. Pick and keep whatever name YOU like and YOU want. Ignore the dumb lady upstairs. :-) Smile, you are having a baby!!!
I wanted to name my first daughter Maegan Desire'e, but my , thankgoodness EX, said it sounded black. Where he got that idea, I don't know. But he would probably get along real well with your neighbor. The fact is Desire'e is French, and if I'm not mistaken that is a nationality, NOT a race. Some people are so ignorant. I AM naming this baby Chere'e Desire'e. Infact it was my husband of 3 yrs idea to name her that. Chere'e is after my mom. My daughter will carry her name proudly. You should name your baby whatever you like and I think Chancellor is a wonderful name. If you and this neighbor also have a freindship, I would express to her how she made you feel. Maybe it just came off wrong. I have a Hispanic brother-in-law that we can joke like that. Maybe she thought ya'll were that close. If ya'll aren't, then maybe she would be a waiste of your time. Either way, I would let her know how you feel.
There's no such think as "black names" or "white names" but some names tend to be attributed to one culture over another. My daughter's name is Elaina and a LOT of hispanic people always say, "Oh we know a lot of Elena's! It's a Spanish name."
I've looked her name up and it is actually more French, but that is besides the point. Your neighbor was VERY rude and I think you should call her out on it. Atia was right, there's no rules for names! Pick what YOU want!!!
I don't think there are white names and black names. Obviously, there are names that are more commonly associated with certain races though. I know someone named Shanequa, and I must say, I've never met a white person with that name. But ther aren't rules about it, that's for sure. I think Chancellor is a beautiful name. . . white, black, asian, whatever. :-D
