Wow @searra that is truly inspirational. What a beautiful thing to do.
Anyway, I was wondering the same thing, I plan on donating. :)
I would ask your obgyn , I live in texas and they take it at the hospital and are extremly grateful. My mother in law died of cancer so I am always willing to donate in any way I can. My daughter has beautiful hair past her butt and when she turns 5 were going to get her first hair cut and donate it in honor of her grandmother. We have a salon that is ran by breast cancer servivors and they make wigs. Its giing to make my husband really happy.
It had come up at one appt, my doc said her sister or someone did it and it was about $2500. Insurance does not cover it, so cannot afford that!
Because of how little people do donate it not every hospital collets it and sends but I read on this website that you can send it in yourself.
I never even knew you could donate it! Does every hospital do it? I'll have to ask my doctor!
Ive seen on other post a while back that they thought they messed with the baby just wanted to ensure everyone they dont.
Just to let everyone know they do not drawl blood or mess with your baby at all, they only mess with the cord.
And there is a first year processing fee of about 1,000-3000 dollars depending on the place, and then an annual cost of about 150 dollars.
I'm so annoyed! I'll be a month away from 18 when I have him, and you have to be 18 to donate it so I can't :/ but I was really wanting to.
I agree with peaches, It's a lot of money, I remember my doctor saying It was somewhere around 3K. Me and my boyfriend both wanted to, then we heard the cost and I was like shooooootttttt, well maybe not then lol.
I believe u pay out of pocket n its a couple grand. I was interested till I saw the cost.
This wasnt my post but i learned a lot thanks :) i also want to store but it will prob not be in my budget so yes i would def donate but i would have never thought to get a form to fill out
Remember you have to ask for the form to donate alot of people dont so they usually dont ask. Ask your doc if you want to save it for your family they have payment plans.
Yea I agree if I can't afford it I will donate.
Figured its better saving someones life rather then getting thrown in the trash.
Im not sure how much it cost. I donated my sons. Its painless and easy.
