No kidding on the car seat.  And work with the straps so you can easily adjust them once baby is in the seat. My husband and I sat and fiddled with them for like 10 minutes trying to get it right with our first baby because I hadn't worked with them before.  I had my car seat base strapped into my car by the fire department. check your area for who does car seat inspections---  it's usually the health department or fire departments. worth it.  I had a lady drive out for my second baby from the health department, meet me in my house, she brought this tool she placed on my car that strapped the second car seat easily and was like "done', you're all set!  It was awesome!!

For me I brought 2-3 outfits. Confy ones like sweatpants and the spaghetti straps that have the built in bra so it would be easy to breast feed. And I didnt want to hassle with a bra being as sensitive as I was. Socks. Slippers. Shampoo conditioner. Body wash. Brush. Hair tires. Phone. Phone charger. Entertainment for my bf. A coming home outfit for me and baby. Tooth brush and tooth paste.

Hi there. Well, with my first baby I had a lot of things, most of which I didn't use.

Most women end up wearing the hospital gown, for example.  Why?  Because you bleed a ton after pregnancy and your jammies will get messed up big time (so, they probably would be thrown out after) and two, you are recovering, so the hospital gown is very functional.  It pulls over easy for breast feeding, it lifts easy for nurse checks and bathroom.  Changing clothes is not easy right after baby.  So, it's pretty common if you just wear the hospital gown

Do bring socks that you will throw away after (they get gross).

Some women shower at the hospital but as you are there for a day only a short time really and again, you are recovering and it's a hospital so kind of sterile and unappealing for bathroom time---  I found I took a shower right before leaving for the hospital (yep, even when in labor, I took a shower and washed my hair and put it up).  My first baby I had all my showering things but never took one there as I didn't feel great after the baby.  I waited until I got  home and felt a little better.  But some women do take a shower there.  I had my make up, hair brush, lotion, toothbrush, and hair bands to put my hair up.

Take your camera and video camera and charges and phone charger, obviously.

Outfit for you to go home in.  Now, I didn't realize how much you still look pregnant right after you had a baby.  Ha ha.  I thought you got skinny right away again.  Nope.  I went home in my maternity clothes.  So, keep that in mind.

I didn't change outfits for the baby and left them in the t shirt the hospital puts them in.  My hospital would change babies out of outfits back to the t shirt.  They like them in that t shirt.  But bring one for baby to go home in.

Bring a small bag to take everything the hospital room provided to you that isn't used--  diapers, wipes, pads, etc.

speaking of pads, have these waiting at home.  I had NO idea about the post bleeding.
good luck

I would also pack chapstick, lotion, gum, and maybe a couple snacks in case the cafeteria is closed. We had to.make a run for my sis in law lady week bc she needed these items and forgot them. Also, electronic chargers. Google your question or use Pinterest.  They've had some good ideas. :)
