Wic can give you formula if you choose to formula feed
By the way, a lot of hospitals also rent breast pumps at a reasonable price!
I formula fed my son, I thought about breast feeding but was 18 and living in my in laws basement so no real privacy. With this one I'm going to try breastfeeding, yes the pump is more expensive up front, but your looking at $30-$50 a week in formula. With my son I had wic so didn't think about it, now I'm knowing this will be cheaper
My daughters pediatrician told me on Tuesday, that there was a research done on breastfeeding babies and bottle formula, and the results were 10 percent higher IQ. I am bottle-feeding mostly as of now cause I am having trouble breastfeeding and on milk production.. but I'm going to try some remedies to help on my milk production so I can do both. but it doesnt really matter what you supply your baby with, don't get discourage.. feeding them with what you prefer is fine!:)
Baby will turn out fine regardless which way you go. I breastfed with my 1st for 3months before stopping but I want to try for as long as I can for this one even though I have to go back to work 7weeks after baby. You can go whichever way you want but breast feeding is definitely best for baby and cheaper!
WIC can give you a free electric breast pump. I formula fed my oldest and she was in the lower 5th percentile until she was 4 because no formula was giving her the nutrients her body needed. After she was 4 I was able to put her in nutritional assistance.
Check with health insurance many now cover a breast pump. I am getting a $250 Ameda pump for free.
I started breast feeding and it was too much. Now I formula feed for the most part and in the middle of the night for the feedings I breast feed
I worked a full time job and pumped for 7 months at 22 yrs old. All I would think was I'm doing this for my baby. You should too
i combination feed and baby boy is doing well. bd's cousin and his girlfriend have a daughter who is 15 months and she was exclusively bottle fed and again is fine health wise. its the colostrum you make in those first few days that's really beneficial for baby. its totally your decision as to whether you express or formula but you could price up the cost of both - expressing is more expensive upfront because of the pump - manual ones are cheaper but harder to operate, the electric ones are great but are more expensive. you could always see if theres any assistance to help you get one, or do you know someone that has one you could borrow - all it would need is to be sterilized. once the initial cost is out the way it won't cost you anything more. or formula feeding is a weekly or monthly cost, what formula you use and how long is going to last you. hope that helps x
But I know a lot of people who formula feed there baby's and their totally healthy :) and they say its easier the only reason I want to breast feed is because the colostrum
Girl if you go to the Heath department they will give you a electric pump :) but like ^^ said its a whole lot cheaper breast feeding and formula doesn't provide colostrum I'm planning on breast feeding for 4/5 months then switching over to formula
The thing is two I dont have money for a breast pump n all the essentials
I personally plan on breastfeeding because it is proven to be better. And cheaper. You can always pump and leave it in the fridge for him to give to the baby. Even freeze it.
