Providing no complications, I'll be doing the delayed cord clamping/cutting as well. It can increase baby's iron levels, among other things, as well as add up to 30% blood volume if the cord is allowed to stop pulsing before it is clamped or cut. Of course, it wasn't as much of a difficult decision for me because my husband and I don't believe in the use of blood transfusions and the like. Still, waiting to clamp and cut the umbilical cord is much cheaper than banking and really has some good benefits for baby. You should look in to it, even if just for comparison.
Sorry I'm from Denver,Colorado, USA
Delayed cord cutting is just waiting until all or most the cord blood drains into your baby and it reduces the risk of anemia and jaundice in your baby.
What is delayed cord cutting?
I am doing it, I'm from Sydney Australia.
I wanted to but I also didn't have the money to do it. My hospital offers donation of the cord blood or you can do delayed cord cutting which has benefits to your baby. So I will be doing the delayed cord cuttinh.
I didn't because of the cost, but I did look in to donating to a public bank. My hospital wasn't one of the advertised "donation" hospitals, but during/after delivery, they collected the cord blood for research. I'm happy that I was able to provide something for the benefit of research. Here in Alabama, my known options were ViaCord and Southern Cord.
