can a pregnancy test give me negative results if I was 8 weeks pregnant?

I'm 36 years old and I have 2 kids and the youngest is 3 yrs old .  Its been a while that I've been pregnant but I know what to expect but I don't understand why my pregnancy test keeps coming out negative. I have all of the symptoms and if i;m not pregnant then what else could this be?    I've been nausea, boobs hurting, missed period, headache, sinus infection(I had with my other two kids), bloating, mood swings, clear discharge that looks like snot, fatigue, cramping, lower back pain, and food cravings .   I took a pregnancy test on April 18th and today and they both came out negative.  Please help me has this ever happened to anyone else?  If so what did you do?

I was a couple of weeks late and unable to get a positive pregnancy test, I took 12 over the span of 4 weeks before I went to a doc. I had to get blood drawn for a positive result because my hormone levels weren't high enough yet.

I don't know how true it is but keep hearing that sometimes women won't be able to get a positive hpt for some reason - maybe it's that they are forming a different type of hcg that the test doesn't recognize or something. I would call your ob and ask for a blood test or an ultrasound to see for sure.
