Did I test too early?

I had unprotected sex during ovulation and there is a chance I could be pregnant.  I went to the doctors today and took a blood test and it came back negative.  The problem is i am only 5dpo.  Is this an accurate or reliable result?  If not when should I retest?

This is not an accurate result but I would definitely wait until you are supposed to have your period and then test again if it does not show

Not accurate at all. Implantation usually occurs 7-12 days post ovulation and then the embryo gives off HCG (detectable via urine or blood). A urine test is a lot cheaper. You can take them, or a blood test, when your period is due (2 weeks after ovulation).
