is it safe?

I'm 21 weeks, and I have absolutly all the trouble in the world, trying to get to sleep. I was told melatonin is good to take. Is it safe for me and the baby.?

Talk to your dr about it. Mine gave me ambien and I take a half a pill maybe once a week. I dont take it often but I feel like if I can get 1 great night of sleep in a week then I can handle the rest of the sleepless nights.

Just because it's "naturally occurring" doesn't mean you should take it while pregnant.  It's highly advised that melatonin should be AVOIDED as out may affect reproductive development, and the fetal sleep/wake cycle.

It is completely natural and perfectly ok for you, but my doctor told me that there have been no studies done on it in regards to safety for baby. I relied on melatonin before I got pregnant because I worked overnights, but as soon as i found out i was pregnant i was strongly encouraged to stop taking it. Also, it says do not take while pregnant right on the bottle...I would talk to your doctor about it before taking.
