When is it appropriate to have a baby shower?

I am due December 4th and my best friends want to start planning a baby shower for me for September. How long in advance is it appropriate to send out invitations? Also, my finace`s family hasn't really been involved in my pregnancy at all since they are very religious and upset that I am pregnant before we are actually married (even though we're engaged and have a date set). Would it be wrong to not invite any of his family to my shower? They haven't spoken to me since they found out I was pregnant over 4 months ago.

I would send out invitations in early august, so people have time to plan but not too much time to forget lol and about the in laws, I would talk to your fiance about what he wants to do about his family. Just out of respect for him so there's no misunderstanding or anything.

You typically have the baby shower within the last couple of months of the pregnancy..
