Lol wow I'm so late didn't know this topic was such a big deal lol im going to bring everything I feel I need just in case hospital doesn't provide everything because my sisterr delivered at the same hospital a year ago and said there "stingy" but 6 outfits is a little too much if my hubby has to come home and grab something that's fine we live 5 mins away but I do plan on using whatever they provide and useing my stuff if I need to .... And I have lots of Johnson & Johnson none of the baby's in my family have had a problem with it and it smells really good but if my baby does have a bad reaction to it I will no longer use it I'll just call the hospital and see what they have but thanks

In terms of stuff for mom, loose fitting clothes and pj's,  nursing bads, maxi pads, extra undies, toothbrush toothpaste shampoo/conditioner (I'd always buy the little sample sizes to keep in the diaper bag) flip flops for the shower. Dad will need money to eat in the hospital cafeteria etc because the hospital will only provide food for you. Hope this helps

Not all hospitals are the same and are by no means like a fancy hotel that provide everything for you. I live in Canada and they bathed the baby for us and put the baby in a newborn diaper when they were born but no others were present or offered. No wipes were offered,  no shampoo, body wash etc for mom. Although they hospital does offer linens to cloth the baby they are tied at the back and a pain to get on and off, especially whole nursing since skin to skin contact is recommended. Not only that but after spending 9 months preparing for this baby a lot of.koms prefer to have them in their own outfits anyway. Every hospital is different, no need to be critical of mothers who bring everything possible because hospitals are not hotels. After three kids and the same hospital I know to bring my own outfits, diapers  wipes, shampoo and conditioner. Call your local hospitals info desk. A lot do if Fer a list of what you'll need in the maternity ward.

When I had my son last yr they gave me everything I mean I of course went pack crazy but they ended up giving me pads nursing pads diapers my hosp didn't use regular wipes they used the wet your own wipe type cloths and also used antibacterial soap not actually baby soap or and they didn't use Johnson and Johnson they gave me stuff that was kind of like a vasoline but it soaked in nicely to help prevent reactions .. ad said above all hosp r diff u may want to ask jic what they provide and what they don't so u don't freak out when u didn't bring something .. as I said I had packed like everything but I just ended up using their things except for his going home out fit .. for u u may want pads and nursing pads depending on your hosp .. u may want to take some witch hazel pads which is nice for hemorrhoids if u end up w them it helps. Chapstick ul prolly want ur own shampoo conditioner body wash .. some hosp have blow dryers so up to u if u think ul need one and all the other stuff like make up n hairspray etc. I didn't really care how I looked in there but everyone's diff lol also ul want stuff ul be comfy in I'm sure I just took a bunch of lounge clothes bc I was kinda sore n didn't want real clothes but didn't want to be stuck in a gown also don't bring tight undies take comfy soft undies u can move in as well as bras I was most comfy in sports bras  .. your bf will want his soaps and a cpl changes of clothes n prolly night clothes hope this helped

My hospital (I think all in Scotland) no longer supply you with nappies(diapers) so you have to take your own. So not ALL hospitals provide things you need.
Best to ask the hospital what they will provide so you don't over pack and have to carry a heavier bag :)

Sry was having an anxiety attack when posted that earlier so prly should not have I was simply saying yes hospital provides stuff but if you have an extremely sensitive skinned baby like our family does then their crap isn't good enough lol bc their crappy Johnson and johnson cancer causing crap has fragrance in it. Can't use it on my babies not that I would if I could.

Maybe this category should be divided into two kinds of people:

1.  People who bring everything they need to a nice  hotel and
2.  People who know nice hotels have soap,  shampoo, towels,  lotion, blow driers,  etc.

So maybe the moms should figure that out.  If you want to bring all your own stuff,  do that.

If you want to relax and let the hospital provide nice stuff,  do that.

Se la vie

Seriously? We're allowed to well pretty much w.e we want at our hospital. No nurse is going to bathing my baby my husband and I will be doing and not till next day (the coating they are born with is extremely healthy for their skin also prevents dry skin so screw nasty lotion with crap on it). Also ill be delivering at a different hospital than lay time and no one ever said you had to have baby in their clothes!? My child wasn't nor will this one. Plus if your kids have sensitive skin like mine do that crapy Johnson and Johnson stuff will screw then right up we bring our own baby wash. Also being everything weeks so ik what itx was washed in. Nothing about this.post was meant to be derogatory towards original poster just confused y some people think every hospitol is the same. Check with your hospital see what they provide and then decide what you want and need. :-)

That's a lot of stuff. Does your hospital not provide these things? Most do. Many also prefer you not tale them out of hospital clothing until it's time to leave.

I recommend using the hospital's linen for the baby and just taking a onesie or two and your going home outfit. (Receiving blankets and blanket too). Saves you from having to wash all of what he soaks when you get him home. That's just what my L&D unit said was good. They supply all the things he will need while there and send a few things home with.

Always pack at least 6 outfits or sleepers for baby. Between peeing, pooping, and nursing baby will go through them so fast. Newborns use 8-10 diapers a day so if you stay the average 2 days in hospital make sure you have at least 20 diapers.  Seems like a lot but boy, do they go through them. I learned the hard way with my first how much they need at the hospital. 3 kids under 4 I'm a hospital bag pro hahaha. Make sure you have nursing pads, heavy maxi pads, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for yourself.  Also, cheap plastic flip flops come in handy when you use the hospital showers since the floors can be gross. Best of luck!

Nail clippers! What about pants for him? So his legs don't get cold. You may want lotion for him, some baby's get very dried out skin right after birth and require lotion a few times a day. My daughters skin was flaking off cause it was so dry after she was born, we used aveeno baby lotion a couple times a day to get her skin to stop being so dry!
