Weight Gain

So, I've noticed that my maternity pants don't fit anymore. They are falling off my hips and I can't keep them up anymore. I didn't know if this was due to simple physics - my belly is poking out, so the pants are gonna fall (even though they have fit great for the past 8 weeks or so). OR, if it's because I'm not gaining a lot of weight and might be losing weight in my hips/legs area.

I was not a small girl to start with, but not obese either. I've only gained 8 pounds so far and I'm nearly 26 weeks along. Is this normal? The nurse didn't seem concerned at my last appointment and I forgot to ask my dr if that was ok.

When should I get concerned about it? I'm not concerned about getting too large - I'm concerned about not gaining enough at this point. My slim sister is 5 weeks ahead of me and has gained 22 pounds so far. I just feel like I am falling behind....

In fact, I wore suspenders at times, but hated that I couldn't wear them smoothly under my lighter-weight shirts.  (They worked under heavier sweaters.)  I don't know if it's called the Bella band or not.  It's just really wide, in order to pull up over the whole bump.

Thanks girls. I will try to worry less about it. In the meantime, my britches are just hanging low! LOL! I've tried the pants that go below the belly and they still fall. I've tried the giant waitband pants, just they just slip down too. The only thing that seems to stay up are the two skirts that have the round panel in the front and no elastic in the back.

Annie - this band you are talking about sounds real attractive...lol! But I will try anything. I have the bella-band. Is that what you are talking about? Should I just be wearing it higher up to anchor? I used it in the beginning to wear my normal pants unbuttoned.

It's simple physics.  The lower half of a circle will not hold up a pair of pants.  Get one of those wide, elasticized waistbands that they sell at the maternity store, that goes on (under your shirt of course) over the bump up high.  Only by anchoring your pants to something smaller than the bump and above it, will they stay up.
