I agree with pmaried you could take custody away from them and make them pay, I struggle financially when its only me and now two of us is going to be worst. I also get the other point what hayan and acline say if the guy really mistreated you then pass on the child support and don't let him near you.

File for child support when the baby is born. Make sure you have custody if that's what you want, he has to legally sign his rights away. Regardless of if he has custody or not he still has to pay. He made the child, he has to pay for their well being that is how the system works. If he doesn't pay he will end up in jail.

About the child support.. the father of my older 2 children does not have any custodial rights but is still required to pay. I am not trying to sound rude here, but for any mother who isn't seeking funds for their child should rethink the decision, or consider themselves fortunate if they can make it in this tough world without the extra financial support. Although not always 100% reliable, what i have gotten i've used for rent, groceries, clothing, & sports teams. He can say 'oh i'll just quit my job blah blah blah' but sooner or later the system will get him one way or the other. I guess i feel strongly about this because i have lived with no money, no support, and really struggled to raise my oldest 2 sons alone up until 2 years ago. Wishing every woman the best regardless..

yess!! @acline!!! i know if i were in any different situation than married or in a steady relationship, that's exactly what i would do. i don't want some man that would be a horrible role model/parent figure to my baby girl in her life. she'd be better off with a single mom. glad someone agrees. seriously. eff the child support. he isn't there through the pregnancy, nothing should change once baby is outside of the womb.

I'm doing like hayang said and saying F the child support, I'm not even putting him on the birth certificate. Getting child support means that he gets some type of custody arrangement, and if he's a really awful person then you won't want that.

oooor you can say eff the child support and keep baby away from his and pray a man like him never tries to see baby or talk to baby or get in touch. that's what i would do

Trust me, from someone who has been there, a court order signed by a judge ordering him to pay support is the best way to go. Once that is in place, his wages or whatever income he receives will be garnished & he won't even have a chance to interfere with your child's funds. Without a court order, I personally would hold my breath & hope I would get something but now it comes automatically. Thank God.

Go apply for tanf tell them who the father is and the state will start the process for you including paternity test. At least that is how it is here in washington state.

Then you just have to wait till the baby's born and file for support. Unfortunately you can't do anything until then

Just file for custody. If he doesn't show up, he doesn't get time, it's as simple as that.

If your married now, but if not when baby is born. Yoy can get back support which will be owed from the day the baby is born. You can get tanf until then and he will have to pay all the money back once u prove the child is his.

You have to wait until after the baby is born, either he needs to sign the birth certificate or get a paternity test done. Then if he wants custody you have to go through that before they can even begin to figure out how much he had to pay because it changes based on how much time he has with the child. If he chooses not to have any time he can either sign it away to you or just not show up to court and then they will send the case to child support. Either way you won't be seeing any money until at least six months into the babies life but it depends on how quickly you file and the courts sends it through. BUT you will get back pay to when the baby was born. I recommend you filing with custody now and working it out with him or having him sign custody away before the baby is even born. Then all you would have to do is get him to sign the birth certificate or take the paternity test after the baby is born before filing for support. Moves the process along faster.
