Concerns and Questions about C-sections?

Hi,

I am 37 weeks pregnant. My baby has been in the frank breech position since 30 weeks and hasn't changed. I can actually feel her skull at all times. I have been reading online and have freaked myself out about c-sections as i am currently on a waiting list to receive one ( I planned to do a natural birth).

I was just wondering what other women's experiences were with c-sections? Also, I have been reading online that sometimes babies are in breech due to fetal abonrmalities, although all tests and ultrasounds have come back normally I am worried that something is "off". Did your babies come out perfectly fine? Did any of the babies move last minute. Any stories would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I've had three c-sections and will have #4 in July...my first was because the ambolical cord was wrapped around her neck and wasn't letting her engage into the birth canal..with my second my doc was willing to try vbac until an ultrasound @ 34 wks showing she was already 7.5 lbs..my doc didn't want to risk rupture with her being so big(@ 38 wks she was born 9lbs 1 oz)..agreed that no question abt having to have em c-section..I will say this..get family/ friends to come help..my mother stays days with me and my mother in law stays nites until I'm recovered enough to do it myself..im also blessed with a church family that brings meals the first week home with a new baby..plus I plan ahead n make lots of meals and freeze em..I normally don't have to "cook" for weeks!!! If you don't have family close maybe you could line up some friends to help get meals or let you get the rest your gonna need...I havnt really had a bad experience but that is because of the support I get from my family..it seems scary but you will only make it worse by over thinking it!! Yea its major surgery but not the end of the world..plus you will get plenty of pain meds  to help with any pain...I've never had a problem feeling too weak to hold my baby.? As for gas pains, I had some but nothin major and nothin up in the shoulders..?? Best wishes and hoping baby does turn for you..if not feel free to message me any questions..;-)

I have had 2 c-sections and will have a 3rd in May and honestly a c-section is not so bad the only thing I really don't like about it is not being able to carry anything heavier than your baby for 6 weeks other than that it's not too bad, you get to know when your little one will be here and no contractions. I hope your baby flips but if it doesn't, don't worry all that matters is a healthy baby.

I personally was breech folded in half completely. Tried to make it out butt first good news is i'm pretty normal lo. they wanted to put braces on my legs when I was learning to walk but my dad saw no need and I walk just fine. Sometimes I guess baby is stubborn and cant figure out up from down. I'm pretty scared of this, myself

I didn't have a c-section but my daughter was breech. She is 100% normal. I know they worry about their leg joints if they are breech because of position. However, we had no problem areas. She did have a red mark on her forehead for a couple weeks from the position she was laying in. Usually they have it on the back of their head but because she was all flipped around she had it on the front.

Thx tx555. I didn't know much about csections either. I had my tubes tied and a Cyst ruptured so i know about the pain u were talking about after surgery. As for the question about breach babys, my son flipped when i fell about 34wks. I also went into labor. The Doc gave me the epidural and pushed hard on my stomach to flip baby to position. It worked so i didn't need a c section. They will probably try this first. I had a Doc that preferred vag deliveries which was great.

I had a csection, it's bearable, bur vaginal is probably preferable, I wouldn't know, as I'm 15 weeks and will have another csection. My doctor said vbacs are nor recommended but it probably depends on the doctor and your personal situation. I'm ok with it because with #1 I went through 24 hours of induced labor only to end up with a c-section, so I had to recover from both. This time, I don't want to risk it. But I hope the baby turns, and if not, c-section is just another way to deliver the baby, it's harder on you but it's not the end of the world!

I haven't had a c-section but I can help you out with your last question. After a c-section it depends on a couple things as far as if you can have a VBAC on your next delivery. First is the doctor and hospital policies, some offer to at least try VBAC, some have standard procedures against it. There has been some lobbying to change this and offer more VBACs when safe. It also depends on the type of incision used in the c-section. Depending on where the incision is located there is more risk of the uterus rupturing during contractions and that may completely cut out the option of a VBAC. This is all something you can discuss with your doctor beforehand and he/she can answer based on what type of incision he plans on using based on baby's position. It is also not uncommon that baby spins himself around into the correct position before birth, or sometimes your OB will be able to try to move him. But that doesnt always work out.

A c-section is common, but many women don't realize it is a major abdominal surgery and you will need some time to recover and may or may not have the muscular strength to hold baby without a support pillow at first and that is normal. It is also a larger incision so you will be sore. One thing to prepare yourself for beforehand is gas pains. After they sew you back up, some outside air remains trapped in your abdominal cavity and collects under your diaphragm causing some pain that can travel in your shoulders (some say this pain is worse than your tummy). I've had 4 abdominal surgeries and had it with all of mine and I wish someone told me beforehand. You will be sore for a couple weeks but you will gain strength with each day. It's important to have your hubby or family to help you out the first couple of days home depending on your recovery. By 2 weeks post-op you should feel well enough to go on with your daily activities with minimal discomfort. Best of luck and I hope this helped a bit!

Also*** Forget to ask, but I hear that after you get a C-section women are likely to have a c-section in future pregnancies and i hear something about uterine ruptures. Has anyone successfully done VBAC????
