Asbestos Exposure

Hi, I am looking for some answers to an asbestos
related concern I have. A few years ago I was working for a
construction company where I was subjected to removing asbestos siding
without the proper protection. After I came to my senses, 3 days
later, I quickly stopped working there and removed myself from the
hazardous situation. I am wondering if my brief exposure is considered
to be high or low exposure and if I should continue worrying that I
may become ill from it later in life? Also, what type of asbestos
fiber was used in asbestos siding and what percentage asbestos was
placed in it? Looking to end my worry, but also willing to accept the
truth. Thank you for your time.

Helllo I ave been through somewhat the same experience . The type of asbestos you are dealing with in North America in the siding wold have been chrysotile andprolly in the range of 15% . You would have minimal if any damage done at most that would have been done would be pleural plaques. I have OCD and really freaked out about my incedant a year ago and contacted some big time asbestos experts through email and actually talked to one on the phone about this issue . There are town up in Canada where they still mine chysotile and the town is literally surrounded bythe stuff and there cancer rates are not any different than any other areas . you can google asbestos mines in canada and actually see some pics of the town with mounds of asbestos in the background. I ufortunately have been exposed recently at work to the more dangerous substance amosite and once again it is turning my life and mind upside down.

Sorry, about spelling asbestos incorrectly although my reply was genuine.  My husband seems to be more concerned about how to get rid of the small amount of asbestos he has removed from homes rather than a health issue.  If you work on a building site, you should always make sure that they follow Health and Safety guidelines and if they don't - walk out.

Hi, You should have been given a mask and also told what you were working with, but from what I can gather, you would have to be around abestos for a long time before any damage is done to your lungs. My husband has done similar short jobs to you and he isn't worried about it.  I hope this is helpful for you.

By the way...The only type of damage done to the asbestos siding included breaking and then cleaning up.
