Try the ujjayi and kapalbhati pranayam(breathing technique), which will try to balance your body systems, get to the underlying problem.
Ujjayi pranayam
First exhale fully.
During inhalation your glottis should remain partially closed. Glottis is the opening between the vocal chords. While inhaling, produce a sound as if you are sobbing, by partially closing the glottis.(This is reverse of clearing your throat, where your are exhaling).
The face muscles should not be contracted during inhalation. Abdominal muscles shouldbe well controlled. Inhale smoothly and uniformly.
After deep inhalation, retain your breath as long as possible. While retaining breath do Jalandhara bandh (lock your chin, touch your chin with your chest).Initially, try to retain breath for 8 to 10 seconds. Gradually increase the time of retention of breath.
After retaining breath, first open the Jalandhar bandh(chin up) and then, close right nostril and exhale slowly through left nostril. The glottis should all along remain partially closed. This is one set of ujjayi.
Do this for 5 to 20 times everyday.

Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day. Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently. Start with 1 minute and increase your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.

I have good breath... and nobody can smell this... but my head sure does...    when coughing or yelling.. blowing nose ,etc... I wonder if there's something wrong up in the gums.. way up in the roots of the teeth somewhere.... an infection .... or a rotten root or something.. but I would think I'd have symptoms..  .which I don't...  I don't know...    :(

Thanks...  yes.. makes total sense...  I do need a checkup at the dentist... and am overdue a year or two...  xrays, etc.. I thought I would have to have a tooth infection or be sick with it.. to have bacteria enough where I would smell it...  the smell is there when I happen to cough or yell out, etc.. like when air is forced out with force..  Something is smelling....  and it fills my nose/sinus or whatever...  cause it's only there when air is forced out. (cough/yelling, etc..).        How crazy... and I pray I get this figured out sometime soon..    :(

Although I'm not a doctor, I do know "some" stuff about this. Bacteria can be present and not cause anything significant. You have more types of bacteria in your mouth, than there are species of everything on the entire planet. That's why you have bad breath in the morning, and that's why you'd have a bad breath whenever you have a bad breath. That's why you'd smell really bad if you didn't shower. However, when you have bad breath, or you smell bad, you aren't, in a way shape or form, ill in any definition of the word. Go check your teeth, perhaps that's the problem. It's unlikely because it surfaces when you cough, but who knows?

Also wondering....... 'CAN" I have a bacterial infection somewhere.... tooth, etc...and NOT feel ill? or have any pains/symtoms?  wouldn't a bacterial infection cause symptoms besides a smell in my head?          ugh....... I hate this problem!

Thanks~  :)  I appreciate your replies...    just wanted to add I don't have a cough.. but when I happen to cough, or cough to check and see if that smell is there... then it is.   I wonder too, if It could be an old root canal I had done about 8 yrs. ago. on my front tooth...  it was infected badly... I had a pus sack on my gum.. and my whole face was distorted for weeks from it.  :o   That was a scary thing to go through.    The endodontist opened the tooth canal to do the root canal, and I smelled this nasty smell in the room all of a sudden.   BUT that was when I was 'sick' with it.. felt aweful, had the infection obviously..  I wonder if there could be bacteria still up there.. perhaps taking years to grow back? maybe the Endo. didn't get all of it?  he did put bleach or whatever .. up in my root canal before filling it in..   but I wonder if this could be from some residual infection from the tooth... and it went into my sinuses?      I'm going nuts over this.  Just now.. I checked.. forced a cough, and sure enough..  I wait a few seconds.. and there it is.  Nasty and there.  :(

I also am not a doctor.  The first thing to explore, is WHY are you coughing.  It sounds like this could be bacterial related.  Bacteria infections don't necessarily show up on blood tests, or any other tests.  Bacterial infections have a foul odor to them.  I suggest you approach this with your doctor or Pulmonologist.  If this is the case, a round of antibiotics would solve your problem. - Best to you.

Are you certain it isn't a dental problem? Anything in there, after you rapidly expel air, can cause what you're describing. I'm no doctor, but it could be related to your respiratory system..I am in no way sure about it being due to that, though.

Hope I was of any assistance. Take care.
