I have a deep cough that wont go away and mucus in my lungs.

I have had this cough since the beginning of August. Originally it was a cold, then all the cold symptoms went away except my deep mucus producing cough and fatigue. For a while I tried to treat myself with rest, water and some tea. I got very tired of being exhausted all the time and went to the doctors. He wasn't sure what it was, he asked if I had a history of Asthma (I don't), asked if I have acid reflux (have never had that either), then stated that it sounded like pneumonia except I don't have fevers, chills and he said he heard wheezing. He put down Upper Respiratory Infection and gave me antibiotics, cough syrup, and cough suppressants for daytime use. I took all the antibiotics, but the cough is still there. It isn't as persistent, it usually only tends to be there in the morning and whenever I am active. But it still very disabling, I walk up a hill and start having a coughing fit that leaves me out of breath. It's hard because I am a working mother who is also in school so I really need my energy. I usually get my energy from exercise but I exercising is just exhausting now. I have never smoked, live in a relatively small town away from a lot of smog, and I have never had allergies or asthma. Any help on the subject? I plan on going back to the doctor, but if anyone out there has had something similar that might shed some light that would be nice. Thanks for reading.
