Annoying Dry Skin on Penis

Recently I have been getting dry skin on the shaft of my penis and on the rim of the head but no further than that. I have been sexually active for about a year with my girlfriend and we are both our first sexual partners. This started a little less than a month ago and I'm quite concerned. My symptoms are dry skin that is slightly darker than the rest of my skin. There is no puss, no sores (Which is good) and if I try and pull the dry skin off too early is makes it raw. We have had sex without condoms before, but she hasn't had any signs or symptoms both before or after I have. This sounds funny, but am I masturbating too much or is this simple skin irritation?

Thanks for any and all advice.
