Diagnosed with Male Yeast Infection

In mid-November, I had my first one night stand. I was drunk and didn't have a condom. It was a huge regret the next day...I literally began to spiral into depression and anxiety. A few days after the incident, I caught a major cold and began to worry I had some viral infection that was going to be serious. About 3 days after the incident, the opening around my urethra began to feel irritated and it seemed mostly irritated after I went to the bathroom. By the time a week had passed, I went and got tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea and it came back negative.

The irritation never went away and I tried applying cortisone and other lotions to the area. I went over a month watching as my urethra opening started to look like it had lips and the area, the ridge on the head of the penis directly below the urethra opening became slightly puffy and a reddish-purple color.

I went back on Dec. 22nd and requested another test. They did a full urinary culture test or whatever its called and again, it came back negative. Both times the doctor never looked at my penis. I just described what was happening. It was incredibly frustrating to get negative results both times when there was something clearly wrong.

I started to slip into a massive depression and decided I needed to finally make an appointment with my regular doctor. I had tried the other two times to see him but he's almost always booked and I usually didn't wait until I had built up the courage to face my fears...I've been so worried that I have herpes or something worse.

On Dec. 31st, I finally got the chance to visit with him. He examined my penis and immediately diagnosed it as a yeast infection...which was something I didn't even know was possible for guys. I further expressed my worries and he told me that I needed to stop worrying. I brought up herpes and he told me that there was no need to even test as he didn't see anything there to even suggest that it was.

He prescribed me a Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate lotion which I'm to apply once to the area in the morning and once to the area at night. On the first couple of days, I noticed a significant difference...it looked like it was starting to heal. It was the first time I had felt happy in almost two months.

But after about the 3rd of 4th day, it started to look bad again. I think this cream is a bit harsh on the skin, as I've seen an increase in redness over the entire head of the penis after using it. I'm researching yeast infections and it seems like I'm suppose to be watching what I'm eating, people put yogurt on the area, and other crazy stuff. Its been a week of using this cream and I feel like it's not getting anywhere.

There isn't a lot of information online about male yeast infections that isn't repetitive and gives me any ideas on what I should be doing. That, and all the photos online are likely only the worst case scenarios...my penis probably doesn't look all that bad...its basically been swollen in the same manner since November.

I just don't know how long this cream takes to heal this and what I'm supposed to do. I have a new girlfriend and we haven't had sex yet and I have no idea how to even begin to tell her about this. I was holding out the hope that this would clear up before we had sex...now I'm not so sure. I won't have sex with her until I know its safe to do so...but I'm tired of feeling down in the dumps...I'm tired of feeling uncertain about my body...this has worn me out. Help.

I had a buddy in the Army that got a yeast infection in his throat.  Ate some bad fish. Get it? Get it? True story.
