Do i have herpes?

Hi,

i had protected sex on april 15th.  Exactly after 20 days, i experienced pain in my penis head.  Immediatly went to doctor and he explained that inspite of being safe, it is possible to get infected.  So we did test for claymdia, shypillis, hepetitis A & B.  I got all the results as negative.  I was happy about it.

Then 2-3 days later i saw few red spots on my penis head.  It was not painful.  they are small tiny dots.  Went tosame  doctor again.  doctor tried to take a swap but since there was not sore, my doctor gave me valtrax for 10 days and ordered Herpes test.  it took 2-3 days for the herpes result to come.  During that time, i started to feel tingling sensation in my upper lips.  based on that i was sure that i was infected with herpes.

I told my GF that i got herpes and asked her to decide if she wants to contine with me.

yesterday i got herpes result and it also came as negative.  i asked my doc what type of test they did.  nurse told that they did igm and igm-2 test.  i have read that igm results are not conclusive.  since am seeing tingling in my lips am thinking that i have herpes and the hospital did not do the test properly.  Am i correct?

Should i do all the tests once again in another hospital?

even the red spots have not outbreak.  now they have reduced and  there are only very tiny red spots.

is it possible that hospital report is correct and the tingling on my lips is because of something else?

Should i tell my GF that i don't have any STD based on the report or should i wait?

My doctor has asked me to see a dermitologist as he think it is not a STD.

Can any one clear my confusion and tell me what should i do?

It was with someone else.  at that time i didn't have a GF.  after the incident, i met my GF and i was about to propose her when the symptoms started to showup.

Btw, i noticed that my capsule is valacyclovir and not valtrax.  are both same?  yesterday night had the last capsule and hence from today am not under any medication.  so will come to know if outbreak will happen or not.
does lime juice help to reduce the outbreak?

you may have told your GF too early, but you did the right thing. Oral herpes (cold sores, etc.) is prevalent in nearly 90% of the population. If you take the blood test and HSV one is positive, it is really nothing to worry about because the test will come back positive if you have been exposed to it. If you have had one cold sore in your life it will be positive. HSV2 is the one you have to worry about. Your symptoms do not sound like herpes, so I would not worry about that. I am sorry that your GF is not responding to your talk very well, but I applaud you for doing the right thing. Was the sex with your GF or someone else?

6 weeks, but 3 months is better.

Herpes, all that is required with herpes is skin to skin contact, even if you don't see a sore or lesion you can get it. Some people who are about to get an outbreak can pass it on to you. I would use condoms they offer excellent protection against all stds, but herpes, syphillis and hpv are purely skin to skin contact. The condom doesn't protect whole penis, it will be dificult to get it with condopm on. But it could be possible. Don't think because you use condoms you are 100% safe.

The only way to find out if it can be related to herpes is to get a blood test.  Just because you get symptoms that are usually associated with something, it does not mean that is what is causing the symptoms. Genital herpes and oral herpes are two different things.  What I mean by that is by having genital herpes, your lips will not be affected or vice versa unless you have both.  Also, even if you test positive for oral herpes, it does not mean you got it from this one encounter.  About 60% of the human population has HSV1 orally many of which do not show symptoms at all.  If you are one of the very very rare few who may get HSV2 orally, then giving oral sex to a person who has it would be possible...but not very likely at all.

You do not have any std associated with the sexual encounter you mentioned.

Hi,

Yea, thats what i hoped.  but I have red spots on my penis and also tingling feeling on my upper lips.

is that not herpes?  Atleast the red spots have got minimized, but the tingling on upper lips are still there.

can there be some other reason for that?

You said you had protected sex right?  Well, since condoms offer more than 99% protection against most stds and you have had negative testing, then you do not have an std.

Hi,

thanks for the reply.  can i belive my other test results or is it better to get a check once again.  Does it take time for HIV virus to get developed in body or am i fine with that?

today i see that ther are no red spots at all on the penis.  may be the tablet is supressing the outbreak.  But what about tingling sensation on my lips?

how long should i wait to get the igg test done?  can i do it immediately?  If i get it done immediatly will the results be dependable?

please advise.

you are correct in saying the igm test is not reliable. you need to have an igg blood test. based on the fact that you said the bumps arent painful then this doesnt really sound like this is hsv going on.
it was probably too early to tell your gf you have an std, because you dont know for sure what is going on yet. just tell her that you are trying to figuring out what is going on and if she will stick by you while you do.
