herpes and neuropathy

I've just been told by my dr. that herpes could be an underlying cause for my neuropathy.  Herpes first manifested itself 25 years ago, the neuropathy 2 years ago.  Could it take that long for it to cause neuropathy?  Of course I have already been tested for just about everything else that could cause it and come up with nothing.  Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Where is your neuropathy located?

Genital herpes, but I also have had the fever blisters in the past too, as well as shingles.  I have been doing some reading on it and gleaned some information, but just not if there is a time frame involved.

Yes I have been worked up by a neurologist, I have seen many doctors and received several diagnosis, some conflicting, but neuropathy is what seems to match my symptoms the most.  I have been checked for diabetes and MANY other things, all normal.  I do not drink alcohol at all, or take drugs.

This would be highly unusual that your herpes would be the cause of the neuropathy. is the neuropathy in the genital area or your arms/legs?

I take it you've been fully worked up by a neurologist? Also they tested you for diabetes too?
