need info

If a family member has herpes what precautions are necessary to not contract yourself.  Toilet seat??  Brushing against them?  or is herpes just a sexually transmitted disease?

Not judging or treating anyone like they have the plague.  The person doesnt even know I know.  Will support the family member no matter what.  I was merely trying to figure out if any precautions should be taken for other members of the family.  When the person is ready to talk, I will listen, support and yes refer them to this forum.  Thank you,

I have to say that having herpes is hard enough without family members making you feel like you have the plague.  My guess is that you know others who have herpes and you just don't know it.  About 1 in 4 have hsv2 in the US.

I understand the question, but since herpes is a NON-ISSUE here, let it drop with the person who has it, ok?

And maybe even refer them to the herpes forum here if they are struggling.

Herpes is entirely an std.  No worries at all for household members.

Unless you are having sex with that person, you won't get it.
