transmission of hpv

I had a similar question about the contraction of hpv. I was just told that a girlfriend has found out that she has two of the high risk stands for hpv. She has only has sex one other time with one other person so theres a good chance i could have given it to her.But now that i know im worried that if she got it from her other partner that she can give it to me and i will infect every girl im ever with.a few questions- Ive heard it goes away how do you get rid of it and how long does it take? I am i am also curious to all the ways it CAN be transmitted. Everywhere i have looked says that it is transmitted from skin to skin contact. I have always worn a condom with this partner and have heard that it can still happen. I have also read that the reason you cant get it from a toilet seat or things like that is because the virus wont survive out of the body like that, then how come you cant get it from kissing? Basically the main question I have is WHY is it only genital to genital contact? what is the difference from the bottom of my penis then any other part of my body? My assuption was that a condom most of the time will prevent stds and the more im reading doctors dont  seem too confident that condoms stop hpv, why is this not discussed in classes? I feel i have atleast an average amount of knowledge of stds and i have never heard of these risks so im pretty sure most people dont. WOW i guess i have alot of question but i have 1 more. How do they know the percentage of guys who have hpv if men cant be tested? please help!! thanks

They have tests that are used in research studies that are not available for commercial use.  They can also sort of extrapolate the number of men from the number of women who have it.

She already has it, which means she has antibodies to that particular strain, and she won't get that strain again.  She can get other strains, but if she was infected by you, then you both have the same strain.

If she wasn't infected by you, then you've already been exposed to the strain she has, and have antibodies which will protect you from getting that strain again.

Oh and it will go away on its own.  90% of people will clear it within 2 years.

Well, oral hpv is rare, so that's why you wouldn't get it from kissing.

And most of the strains that affect the genital area are not going to affect any other part of your body.  The HPV strains that causes warts on your elbow or feet aren't going to affect your genitals, just as the strains that affect your genitals aren't going to affect any other part.

The only one that might is strain 16, and that can infect the mouth.  Its considered rare though.

Condoms reduce the risk of HPV transmission by about 70%, herpes by about 50%.  I can't find the stat for syphilis off hand, but it does offer about the same for syphilis.
