worried about possible pid

Hi, I first of all want to thank you for your help.

Here is my situation:

I started having sex in February 2008.  It was mostly unprotected sex and was all with one partner.  I bled a little bit after most sexual encounters for the first few weeks.  And I had painful urination directly after sexual intercourse off and on for months. (I have since been diagnosed with genital warts and the painful urination could have possible been from urinating on irritated warts near the urethra.)

I had sex with a second partner (it was unprotected as well) 3 times from late July to early August of 2008.  One day after having unprotected sex with this partner I noticed some abnormally colored vaginal discharge when I went to the bathroom.  (I only saw the discharge that one time and I really cannot remember the color of it, only that it was abnormal and I was alarmed so I am guessing it was probably green or a pink...)  I knew near to nothing about stds so I did not go to a doctor.

In December 2008, I got urine tests done for chlamydia and gonorrhea.  They came back negative.  (I have been tested since and they have come back negative as well.)  I have had a pap smear since that has come back normal.

Questions:
1. Could I have had gonorrhea or chlamydia and have had it clear up on its own before I had gotten tested in December?
2. Could I have had trich and my doctor had not seen it during my regular gyno visit and pap smear?
3. What are the chances that I could have had a PID?
4. If I had PID, would it have cleared up on its own or would I still have it?

I am extremellllly anxious and scared that I may have had silent pid and that it could have caused infertility. I am going for an ultrasound soon because I am so nervous but I understand that many times that cannot show damage to the fallopian tubes.

Thank you for your time and your help

You really seem fixated on PID. Really, you've covered your bases and your provider is being more than generous about ordering an ultrasound for you.

if the herpes blood test was done less than 3 or 4 months after you had last had sex, it will need repeated.

Thanks for your quick response.

I asked if I could have the ultrasound done to see if there was any tubal scarring from a possible PID (even though the doctor said it would only show very severe scarring or blockage...it was more to ease my mind a bit because I am really nervous about infertility).

I was tested for herpes (a swab from a vaginal bump as well as a blood test and it showed that I only have the hsv1 coldsores type - I do understand that this can spread to the genital area and am very careful about trying to prevent this).

I am worried because I have read about silent PID, and as far as I am reading, there are not many other explanations for abnormally colored vaginal discharge (I know about BV but it looks as if BV infections have vaginal discharge that is not that differently colored than the normal - yellow, white or grey).

I did read that chlamydia and gonnorhea can go away with antibiotics for other infections - I did have a sinus infection in October and I do not remember if I took antibiotics or not (I am currently trying to get that information from my school's health services where I was seen).

If I possibly did have chlamydia or gonnorhea from the first partner who I was sleeping with for a good 8 months, could we have been swapping the infection back and forth between eachother, and if I had it for that amount of time, would it be possible for me to have had several reoccurent PID infections?

I apologize for all the questions but I am just really scared.

PID would cause you a lot of pain.  You've been tested for the 2 most common causes of it and were negative so I wouldn't continue to worry about it at this point.

trich would've showed up on the pap test too in most cases.

Why did your provider order an ultrasound?

Odds are that you've never been tested for herpes either. I'd cover my bases and get a type specific herpes igg blood test done too just in case the pain you were having with urination originally wasn't from the warts but from herpes. The risk is low from only having had 2 partners but it's best to err on the side of caution.
