awkward...

ok, so it's my first time posting on here, and I feel kinda awkward but...

I haven't EVER been able to put a tampon in, it just hurts to badly.  I've tried all different ways/angles, I've tried relaxing more, I've tried lubricants etc...nothing works, it just hurts after about a centimeter in.  Also, *ahem* a finger *ahem* also hurts...anyways...so I've obviously seen scientific diagrams of down below...and upon examining myself, the "hole" that's supposed to be the vaginal opening isn't there...I mean, all I see is pink flesh.  What's wrong with me?!  I'm thinking about going to a Dr to check it out/answer my questions (perhaps it's normal??), but I'm painfully self-conscious, so I'm a little hesitant, and was wondering if anyone here could a girl out...thx

thank you both very much for your helpful comments!

sammy73 - thanks, I think that's what my 'problem' is/why I worry, is just because I don't know what it's all SUPPOSED to look like.

CurleyGirl7 - I think I am going to go to the Dr, I want to get the HPV shot anyways, so that's a good time to bring this up :)

thanks again!!

You probably have an abnormally thick hymen that is preventing the tampon from going all the way up into your vagina. I would suggest a visit to your gynecologist to see if there is anything that he/she can reccomend, like a smaller brand of tampon, or your gynecologist can actually break the hymen for you so it's not a problem.

There isn't normally a wide-open hole there (like the diagrams in the text-books usually show) - just like other holes in that area it closes itself when there's nothing going in/out of it.  It should be able to open up if you pull it apart.  The hole should be close to the bottom/rear of the lips area.  To be blunt, you'd probably get a better idea of what it should look like, both closed and pulled open, by checking out some free porn on the internet than you'll ever get from text books.

It probably is worth going to see a doctor, you want to find out if everything is as it should be, or at least put your mind to rest, long before you start thinking about starting any sort of sexual relationship.

You are a virgin... Yes?  Have you tried the slim tampons? perhaps you have close to a non perforated hymen?  If so that is a quick procedure a doctor can help you with.

I'm sorry, maybe I explained it wrong...there's an "opening," yes, because obviously I can pee and what not...what I mean is that the labia open up and what not, but just inside them, all it is is pink flesh...there's no "hole" where the diagrams show the vagina...make sense??  sorry, this is hard to explain! I think I am gonna go to the Dr though.  I'm not in any pain unless I try to put in a tampon or anything else...as long as nothing goes IN, I'm perfectly fine.
