It sounds like you either need to use more lubricant but the main thing is to relax. If you are nervous or tense then your muscles contract and it will make it very difficult for you both.

... there's no need to feel embarrassed. What you described is the typical tightness that most virgins feel when the hymen is initially ruptured and penetrated.
