Hear music in my head...

I have had insomnia for a couple years now and have tried a ton of different things with that. I was on ambien and trazadone for a while, but started to develop a dependence and was feeling more tired even though I was sleeping. Before that I exhausted all of the sleep hygiene and over the counter and herbal remedies. The problem is occasionally sleep onset but always with sleep maintenance. I had a sleep study that didn't show apnea but did show RERA's which indicate upper airway resistance. I've seen an Ear/nose/throat and an allergist and both noticed I had very swollen turbinates. I've tried antihistamines with topical nose sprays and those helped a little with the sleeping but it is still an ongoing struggle. Anyways, that is just background for my question.

Occasionally when I am trying to fall asleep I hear music in my head. Not a distinct tune or song that I know or have heard, mostly muffled sounds like bass and guitar or a band like drums and trumpets.  Basically, it just sounds like the people upstairs are playing music a little louder than I would like when trying to sleep. This only happens if I have one ear on the pillow. If I try to ignore it it gets louder. If I pick my head up off the pillow it goes away and I only hear silence. Some nights when I am sleeping really poorly I will wake up with tinnitus, really loud ringing in my ear, but this is very rare (however I don't know if the two may be related.) Does anyone know what could be causing this?  I haven't mentioned this to my doctor yet because it had seemingly gone away but I have been experiencing it again lately.

I too hear music in my head mainly after a song I just heard. All I really listen to is super ultra epic inspirational mostly audio machine and future world music "orchestra music". When I do hear this music in my head after I've heard the song its like my brain makes the most epic and supernaturally perfect superhuman ungodly remix of the song I just heard and I'm vary scared I'm not going to be able to share its perfection. So if there's a way I can hear my music better and play it that would be a miracle. It would probably revolutionize perfect music.

I can't believe others have this to. I think I have so many sleep disorders including sleep paralysis at times that I dont get alarmed anymore. But the one with the music kind of trips me out. yes, mostly when i lay my head down on the pillow. I'm not yet asleep so i know i'm not dreaming. It is very loud like it's coming from inside my ears or brain and for me it's radio stations. sometimes I even hear the DJ talking. This can go on from anywhere between a few minutes to a couple of hours. Usually it plays love songs or other soft music. probably because it's my favorite. I let it just help me fall asleep now. I just literally enjoy the music. It play songs after song after song. Songs I know but some I dont so its really weird. And when I slightly move sometimes it will stop. So I just posistion my head back to where it was and it comes back. Kind of like an antenna. No, I have never been diagnosed with any mental disorders. But now I'm wondering. Although I know other sleep disorders also have audio hallucinations. but I can tell when i;m having those. There a bit different, still crazy, but different. Im surprised to see how many people are getting this. Who else has the actual radio stations though. And you can move your head in different posistions and either get different stations, static or sometimes stops. I have had them in different sleep posistions as well but i noticed alot of the time I am laying on my left side. I think it's funny when someone said it's your heart beat or something. With a DJ? Ha Ha. No it's definately a loud radio inside my brain playing some rather good music. Does anyone have any clue what is wrong with me? I only have audio hallucinations when it comes to being in bed trying to sleep.

I thought I was going crazy.....which I might be :) I hear music when I lie down and have one ear on my pillow. And same thing happens as Chimyers, it goes away when I lift my head. I've been under a tremendous amount of stress, not sleeping, anxious, etc.... Sometimes I can hear it when I'm not lying down. It's like an old radio that needs to be tuned into the right channel for less static. I can't decipher what is played but it's music.

Same thing but I'm twelve. I'm scared. I hear radio talk shows in my head but my brain interprets it as around sound. I asked a family member if they could hear the music as well and they all laughed at me. When the talk show goes to the song I can hear every lyric and the exact singers voice. HELP

Thank you internet, thank to you I can realize I am not the only one to experience that.

Some of you is talking about this as a "problem", I disagree. It's amazing to hear what our brain is capable.

It's been several month I hear music in my hear, all kind, and sometine with voices, even if I can't distinguish lyrics. It I try to focus on it, it fades away. If not, then as the images are scolling in my head as I getting asleep, it gets louder and it happened to awake me once because it was too loud!

If only I could remember them at the morning, if only I was a musician I would records it. These songs are coming from nowhere and they are amazing, and I am not even a musician!
