Horrible Reoccurring Dreams

I have had multiple reoccuring dreams over the last couple years. Almost 80% of my dreams have been gruesome and bloody. Most of them are of loved ones dying, animal brutality, and involve weapons and complete story lines. They are so realistic i have woken up screaming and it takes a few minutes for me to snap out of it. This happens frequently and i have recently been unable to sleep in the dark or by myself. I have had terrible insomnia in the past and its becoming a problem again. I really dont know why i have so many nightmares... but its starting to affect my moods during the day... and im getting really anxious at night before i sleep.

Is there anyone who has had any similar experiences with this? Or does anyone what may be the cause?

i dont know whats wrong with me....

Okay so if the nightmares have always been there and not worse since you have been on meds see if you can cut back on the stress at work or at least try to deal with it , make sure you are not going over and over things that stress you out, think for a few minutes of any stressful situation, then put it out of your mind , dont obsess about anything you have no control over.It is often our thoughts that make us feel bad , we over think stuff" Good luck hope you feel better soon,

i just started using meds this last month, but this has been an ongoing problem for me. my stress levels do vary... im under a load of stress at work at times, but even when everything is going well this continues to happen. Im Vegan, and excercise twice a week, and bike. i gave up going out and drinking as well... i just dont get it.

its starting to make my anxiety go off really bad... and that just adds more!

Are you taking any meds as they can make you have night mares ,even eating a big meal too close to going to bed can tirgger them, how about stress if you are stressed at work or some problem in your life can be a cause. check out your kifestyle whilst you are awake.

I have had bad dreams over a period of several years. I guess everyone's cause is different. For starters, I quit exposing myself to anything scary because I would dream the scenes again only with people I know in them. I began keeping a journal to look for a pattern. Can't say about those earlier dreams, but turned out my later dreams were related to having sleep apnea. They all had someone or something injured in such a way as to affect them being able to breathe. Once my apnea was effectively treated the dreams stopped. Haven't had one in several years.

That may not be at all related to you. Hope you can find ways to lessen your nightmares.
