I would like to sleep some time soon, but Dr dont think so:(

I have a sleeping issue. I cant sleep! I have told my psychiatrist this repetedly, but she is think and thinks melatonin is best thing for sleep. I have been taking 3 melatonin pills every night for two months. I lay in bed until 5 am and I finally fall asleep. I never feel like I get into a deep sleep. I feel like I am thinking the whole time I should be dreaming. Not I have been hospitalized for sleep deprivation. It made me have a nervous brake down. Very scary stuff let me tell you.

All I want to do is sleep and my Dr wont give me any thing for it. I have asked three doctors for Lunesta and I get the same response "see your psychiatrist. Unfortunately my psychiatrist  is a tree hugging hippie that thinks all natural is the only way to go.  I am about to buy the stuff off the internet. It has been three weeks and I ma averaging 3 hours of lite sleep each night. How long can I go like this?

the only meds  I am on is Klonapan for my panic, anxiety and OCD. It help for those things a lot. I have taken over the counter sleep pills, but they make me feel like I was hit with a truck the next day. I just want to get a nice deep sleep without hearing everything around me. I used to sleep like the dead, but now I cant sleep through my husband moving . I am not sure we have any sleep doctors in the area, but I can look.

First of all, it is my opinion you should be under the care of a reputable sleep doctor who is informed about your other medications. Have you had a sleep study? Could any meds you are on have the side effect of insomnia?

Natural is the best way to go - IF those options work. Meds can come at a high price in side effects, and one has to consider meds already on. Are you on any meds that would prevent you from taking any of the over-the-counter sleep aids?

Going without sleep is real hard on anyone. Three weeks at 3 hours a night is not sufficient and has to be taking it's toll. As one who has dealt with sleep disorders for many years, I have gone months at a time with a couple hours a night. Until you resolve this, I encourage you to be careful because you are not at your optimum alertness. I'm not encouraging you to doctor hop, but I am saying that a second opinion by a sleep doctor seems to me to be warranted.
