Sleep disorder plus muscle jerking

Muscle twitching, jerking, cannot lay or stay still. I try to sleep but the tossing and turning are uncontrolable and last for at least 6 hours. My doctor prescribed a sleeping pill, but it doesn't work. As long as I'm up walking around I'm okay, soon as I sit down, I know I have at least 6 to 8 hours of misery. I am never tired or sleepy. No matter how hard I work, I'm never tired. I average about 2 hours sleep. I'm 76 yrs and in good health.

As for the muscle jerking try taking 100 mg. of vitamin B1. It works for me.

Have you tried melatonin? The body produces this normally and is abundant late in the evening. You may not produce enough of it. I take melatonin (2 mg.) every night about half an hour before I want to go to sleep. No side effects/

You may benefit from a information obtained on an overnight at home Oximeter test.  This will be a way to determine if you are suffering from low oxygen levels in your blood while sleeping... and possible sleep apnea problems.  The more costly (is covered by Medicare at present) Sleep Study may be indicated if the Oximeter test (simple and low cost) indicates low oxygen levels.  

This is something I went through this year and I was diagnosed with mild obstructive sleep apnea.  Since it was "mild" and I was a little over weight (245 pounds agt 6'5") the doctor agreed I may get results by losing some weight.  I have lost about 20 pounds and I no longer sense the apnea problems.  I will take another over night at home Oximeter test soon to confirm.

Too, you can discuss with your doctor "restless leg syndrome".. perhaps you have.
