Tired more often than not

I'm not really sure what has happened. I've been alittle on the sleepy side forever it seems. Recently tho its gotten alot worse. I have the hardest time falling asleep. I can be dead tired and once I hit the bed I just toss and turn for hours. If I wake up in the middle of the night it takes me at least and hour to get back to sleep. When morning comes, after putting my son on the bus I'm ready to go back to bed. Some days it takes all I have to stay awake and other days I loose the battle. I walk around work exhausted. This issue has effected my whole life. I cant think straight anymore, I forget all kinds of things, I'm short tempered and moody.
I have scheduled and appointment with my doctor for friday, I am really hoping he can tell me something. I have tried taking a multi-vitamin and even a B complex but nothing seems to help. If anyone has an suggestions please feel free to share! Thanks

Good to hear you are starting to get some answers. Your original post spoke of having problems "forever" so I want to encourage to not stop at looking at time of a mono infection. Mono and B12 deficiency will cause tiredness, but shouldn't cause your sleep issues. Please do continue with a sleep study and try for more complete answers.

I heard back from the doc tonight on the last set of blood work he did. It turns out I am not currently effected with mono but have been in the past. He said that it has most of the simptoms that I discribed and that its not something that can be cured. I have to deal with it and hope that it goes away soon. Sometimes it goes away quickly where as it can take a couple years. Great. At least I know whats wrong now was hoping it would be something fixable with meds but maybe its a good thing that its not. Also turns out my B12 level is really low so I am taking 3 B12 vitamins that disolve under the tongue a day. Maybe I will start feeling better soon. Thanks for all ur help

Fully agree.  I was put on Paxil as a "maybe" and 3 days later had a panic attack that sent me into a downward spiral of panic disorder and severe anxiety. That was 3 years ago and I have still not fully recovered.

Hi Purplerose741224, how are you? Thanks again for the reply and updates. Have you got the blood results and when is your next follow up visit with the doctor? Yes, you need to get a sleep study done. I would like you to get further investigated for the chronic fatigue syndrome and I hope you might be interested to know more on this subject, go through this link for more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_fatigue_syndrome
Continue your regular exercises and try to take a day nap. Massage therapy will be helpful. Yoga and meditation classes can also be benefiting to overcome the stress. Keep updating on your doctor advice. Take care.

Three weeks sounds like a long time to continue to be miserable. Sleep studies take a while to get scheduled. Maybe a call to your doctor to request a referral could expedite the matter. I personally have concerns about antidepressants being prescribed on a "maybe" before thorough testing has ruled out other causes, and that testing for those with daytime sleepiness and restless sleep should incude a sleep study. Wellbutrin is a med with possible serious side effects. To use it without being sure ...  I'm trying to tread carefully here... I'm really suggesting it's already past time to see the sleep specialist.

Hi Purplerose741224, how are you? Hope you are feeling better and able to get some good sleep? Was this consultation with a sleep specialist? You should have insisted on a sleep study too? Well, just wait till the blood report comes in and continue advice as per your doctor. Keep physically active by regular exercises, stretches and brisk walks. Hope Welbutrin helps you. Can you plan few schedules of massage therapy, which would be relaxing? Take care and keep updating on your progress and doctor visit. Take care.

Thanks for you suggestions! I appreciate it. I really am just tired of being tired. I did go to the docs on friday as scheduled. He talked to me alot, asked about depression, said I wasnt. He asked about ticks and if I had seen any on me, said no. Asked about vitamins and stuff said I had been taking them and they didnt seem to helping anymore. So he had the nurse take some blood. Which is being tested for lyme, and checking my thyriod and B levels. I just really hope he can help me out somehow. I am taking welburtin for the time being. I go back in three weeks. thanks for everything!

Hi Purplerose741224, Relax! It seems you are under lot of stress due to improper sleep and the sufferings so. Ambien is good choice for treatment of insomnia, but it is intended for short-term use. Elavil/Endep can be tried if you are not comfortable with Ambien and it is a non-addictive drug. Do morning-evening walk, regular stretches, have nutritious diet with lot of water. Hot shower, gentle body massage and listening to soft music before going to bed can be soothing to mind and body, so it may be of some help. Avoid coffee/tea, smoking, alcohol and a bulky spicy meal at nights. It is a good idea to consult a sleep specialist for evaluation. Get a sleep study done. Keep updating of any visit. Take care.

People who sleep well but are still tired may need supplements, but it sounds as if your sleep is at the core of your problems. Of course you'll want your doc to rule out any causes such as anemia, diabetes, thyroid. But only a sleep study can determine what's disrupting your sleep. Your GP can order that. Let us know how it turns out.
