My dad has a stroke on 10/17 with left parietal effected. Then the first week of Feb he had what we thought was sciatica (low back pain going to knee), took a course of steroids (orally) and the back was relieved greatly but the knee began to hurt intensely. It was XR'd and showed mild arthritis, not relating at all to the intense pain. Since that time his knee has been incapable of being walked on much at all. He is now in a wheelchair most of the time and, interestingly, his mentation (processing info), hearing and sight have taken a hit. It this another stroke? (the initial stroke was from afib but he is a heart patient too, having had 2 MIs in the past).
Hi
Is it just his affected side? Could it be some spastic muscles? I know the back of my bad knee gets tight & sore along with my calf muscle. I find long stretches help with tightness, pain & my gait in general.

My husband had an embolic stroke in September, 2005. His left side was affected. A couple of months ago his left leg, behind the knee. has been aching, and won't relax to the point where he can't sit comfortably or sleep. The pain is increasing to the point now where his leg feels weak when he stands on it and walks. I was trying to rub it last night, and it felt like there was a knot there. Suggestions?
Hello Dear,
Weakness of extrimities is known to occue after a stroke.Defects in circulation after stroke seem to be the reason for the knee pain. You should consult a neurologist and medications which help in increasing the blood circulation could be helpful,if your physician suggests.
