bedridden parent care cost

Hi,
My father was recently diagnosed with neurocysticercosis and the diagnosis was too late. he suffered a stroke and now is completely bedridden. he barely talks, but can talk sometimes with few words. he also caught pneumonia of pseudomonas spp. which is very difficult to treat. he is also severly immunocompromised. he needs 24hr care such as ng tube feeding, diaper change, physiotherapy etc. he is 61 years old and has been bedridden for 5 months now.

Currently he is in his native country but we are thinking of bringing him to USA for better treatment. He is a US citizen and has insurance here. he was out of USA while he got sick.

My question is, is it wise to bring such a patient to USA considering high medical costs here. I live in USA and make around $40k per year. I cannot afford nursing home and it is almost impossible to work and take care of him at the same time.

Back in his native country, we can hire nursing help at affordable rate. This is not possible here in USA.

I dont know how much insurance will cover his costs. he is likely to remain bedridden for years if not rest of his life and we dont know how long that will be.

can someone please tell me if it would be financially devastating to bring such a patient here ?

I'm sorry to hear about your father. He may qualify for disability, have you looked into that?

My dad isn't bedridden but he had a stroke 20 yrs ago and needs assistance. My mom, who was his care giver, just recently had a stroke as well and can't take care of him. We had to place my dad in assisted living. Not sure if your dad served in the military but we were able to get some VA assistance to help cover some costs in the facility. It's called Aid and Attendance. Without the help we wouldn't be able to afford it. It's so tough financially, best of luck.
