I'm scheduled for RAI on Friday, and I've read from the forum that you have to sign a waiver.  Why?  The Doctor has insisted it's safe so what will I be signing a waiver for?  Has anyone that is a member of this forum that had the RAI treatment gotten cancer?  Can I accidently kill my cat?  When I had the scan the first time I threw up, even though they said I shouldn't have.  I lost my job and I will only have insurance for 3 more months.  I feel like I may not be able to treat this later so I'm doing it now.  Please let me know if you all think this is the right thing.

This is not my area of knowledge but if you have the insurance and you are sure this what is needed for you then I'd go ahead with it not knowing what the ins. situation will be down the road and Cobra is very costly if available.

The waiver from what I recall when I had it - it protocal just like when you go into surgery. It is the hospitols way of the C.Y.A situation.

As for cancer - I really can't answer that. Who can forsee the unknown - but down the road - if routine blood work and scans are not done at least scans done every year - you will be in the dark of any potential problems that may come up.

Try to stay away from anything living for at least three days - Do not tough the food the cat eats. I have animals and children and a family. I just stay away for 3 days just to be safe. Follow the instructions the give you at the hospitol when you go Friday. They will give you a consult when you arrive - so ask questions.

You may get flu like symptoms after RAI - so if you were sensitive before - you may be again.

It sounds like - if you are having RAI - you will need to have follow up care for at least a year - blood work and doctor visits. It's not just taking a pill or drink and "everything will be fine".

If you are hyper (graves I assume) protocal is RAI - I was only Grave for less than a year - then I had it. Seriously - I see the benefits and well as the bad. After RAI - you just have to put that aside and focus on what to do next to maintain the best health you can.

Good Luck
