Extreme Fatigue 5 months after a complete thyroidectomy

I had a complete thryoidectomy in March.  My sythroid has been changed one time a month after the procedure.  I am on 125 mcg of synthroid(generic).  In the past 3 weeks I have had 2 full menstrual cycles and for the past couple of days I have been tired.  Today I am so tired and out of it that I can barely work.  I don't really like my doctor(who told me he should deal with my thyroid issues instead of an endo) but I don't have anyone else to turn to.  The last time I felt symptoms that made me think my levels were off, the doctor had his assistant call to tell me that the levels were normal.  When do I know that my thyroid is off and I need to get it check as opposed to just being tired.  I've also been more emotional and aggro the past couple of days.

HELP!

redheadaussie has not been active here for some time, so I will try to answer your questions.

First I assume the test result you mention is for TSH, correct?  Were you  also tested for Free T3 and Free T4 (not the same as Total T3 and T4)?  If so, please post results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.  Same question for Vitamin D, B12, and ferritin.

What, if any, other symptoms do you have?

Hello all ,...

Hope808,.... I had a TT on 05/11/09 due to thyroid cancer ,..and let me tell you,... for the last month ,I have been EXTREMELY  tired ,...so tired ,that I am falling asleep at my desk and actually sleeping for about 20 mins at a time without anyone catching me :-).
so last week I was talking with someone who told me I was suffering from andrenal fatigue and that my cortisol is probably very low right now and to try getting my dr to prescribe me Cortef/Hydrocortisone pills ,..I called my PCP 2 days ago and told her about it ,and she allowed me to try 5mg -(BTW,let me tell you a bit about my PCP ,..I was going to an endo and was on Levoxyl 150mcg but I wanted to be on armour .,..
he refused to let me try Armour and told me my exhaustion was coming from me not getting enough sleep ,.....-I FIRED HIM and went to my PCP who also has her own thyroid patients ,..she prescribed me the Armour 120mg and 5mg of Cortef ,-) I have been taking the Armour for 3 weeks and the Cortef for only 2 days ,..and guess what ,..I haven't fallen asleep at my desk for the last 2 days !

Was your TT due to cancer?  If so, your Tsh would not be kept in the same range as a non cancer patient.  This is why you should be seen by an endo, then your GP can monitor your levels.People who have had thyroid cancer should have a Tsh of no more than 0.1

Hi there. I get quite annoyed when doctors try to convince us we are normal when in fact we feel proverbially rotten!
Firstly, do you make sure you don't take your meds with food in the morning? You need to wait at least an hour as it will absorb and be of no use, rendering you hypo.
Secondly, do you know what your thyroid tests levels are? For one person a TSH being over 1.0 can make them feel lousy, some people feel fine at 12.00 Go figure!
After having a TT our bodies are never the same any way, and having off levels only makes it harder to deal with.
The fact your periods are so close together and your mood is aggro etc and you are tired, shows me you are hypo. By law you can ask for your own copies of your lab tests. I suggest you get them and then post the info of what they say here.
Having had issues after my own TT I do empathise with you!
If you are not able to get any results, is it possible for you to go to a new doctor? Don't feel you must stay with the one you have now.  You need to feel better and that is more important than loyalty to a doctor!
Cheers

Your levels are out of whack and you either need an increase/decrease in yr meds.
The only way of knowing this is to get your labs done.
FT3, TSH and FT4.
Also get him to check your iron levels.
After a TT, you should be having your levels checked every 6 weeks until you are symptom free or at least feel good.

I fired my Endo after RAI and deal with my Doctor only but I am lucky to have a good one who works WITH me.

I think you really need to see a specialist / endo if you are still feeling bad. My doc tried telling me he could meet all my needs instead of an endo, but he proved he couldn't. A specialist is much better.
