H.E. (Hashimoto's Encephalopathy)

6-7 years ago i was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. 2-3 years ago, i passed out at a basketball game and went comatose for a week and a half. They did all kinds of tests on me and couldnt figure out what was wrong. They sent me to a different hospital and a neurologist after a few months diagnosed me with H.E. (Hashimoto's Encephalopathy)  He said he saw a case of it in new york, but wasnt 100% sure on it. My Endocronologist will not treat me for it, b/c he doesnt believe in the  H.E.   No one can explain the things that happen to me. I live in fear every day, not knowing whats instore for me. When this happens usually im asleep, when im found, im moaning and groaning, and vomitting all over the place, yet still asleep and completely out of it. And I would stay completely out of it for days at a time.

Being 19 its so scarey, going to sleep at night. I need answers, I need some type of treatment.

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME.....

I dont remember anything about being in the hospital, or anything they did really..

Well I really have a hard time thinking about things, things that shouldnt take me that long to think about, i always felt like i needed to be in all the special classes in school.

My Memory is horrible, i feel like i have no brain most of the time. I cant think through simple problems on my own. Simple tasks arent so simple, and it seems like people dont understand how i feel. I can be talking and 2 sec. later have no clue what i was talking about or how even to think about finishing my sentences. I have a really hard time with attention. I have tried to get a doctor to diagnose me with ADHD or something, so i could be treated for it.

Even with every day things, i feel "mentally impaired" i feel like i dont have a brain most of the time, and im always soooooo confused. its really hard to expain in detail how i feel every day of my life.

Do you remember what treatment they gave you while you were in the hospital that cleared up the symptoms?

How are your cognitive skills?
Do you feel mentally impaired or confused?

i had lots of tests done, by my neurologist and all kinds of brain scans, and he said that he thinks its H.E. but cant treat me for it.

he said an endo has to do that, and i cant find an endo that believes its h.e.

Have you seen a Neurologist?

Your Endo doesn't believe in H.E. because it is extremely rare, and diagnosing it involves eliminating every other possible cause. When all sorts of tests are run and nothing else of a neurologic nature is diagnosed, then H.E. is considered.

The first thing one Endo said to me after he told me what my TPOab measured was that I needed to be aware of H.E. and watch for symptoms.

You need to see a Neurologist and have brain scans and other tests to rule out MS and other diseases.

If you have a high TPOab, you can try taking Selenium to lower the count. 200mcg a day is a safe dose if you decide to take Selenium. Be careful, though. If you mix up mcg and mg, you could accidently poison yourself. 200mcg is safe. 200mg is way, way too much.

If you don't have a high TPOab, then it's not H.E., but you certainly need to figure out what is going on.

Find a neurologist.
