Your doctor is adjusting your med based, only, on TSH. He will keep you ill.
TSH is a pituitary hormone, and does not adequately reflect actual thyroid hormone levels. Just look at how low your levels are in the ranges.
It's not unusual to see suppressed TSH when on a thyroid replacement.
okay. But my doctor reduced the dosage instead. Now i have to take thyrofit every alternate day. He also gave me calcium and Iron tablets. so this confuses me.
You may need a slight increase in your medication dosage, to get your levels up just a bit higher. At 34% and 39%, your levels most likely aren't high enough to completely alleviate your symptoms.
thank you for the information. I guess i have to take my medicine as wait.
Thanks for information on the Thyrofit. Medications and means of obtaining them are quite different in different countries, so it's interesting to learn about the different medications.
FT3 = 5.46 ( range 4 - 8.3)
FT4 = 13.25 (range 9 - 20)
While your levels are in the normal range, they are still very low in their ranges. Just being in the range, isn't good enough for a lot of people. Your FT3 is only 34% of the range; many people need it to be in the upper 1/3 of the range. Your FT4 is only 39%; many people need it to be at least mid range.
Your hair loss should stop, once your hormone levels are adequate for you, but that may be the last symptom to be alleviated, because it takes time for symptoms to be alleviated, even when blood work is good.
i have not tried other types of levothyroxine. I dont think my doctor is going to switch me to another type because he thinks my hair fall may be caused by hormonal reasons since my test levels seem ok now after the test i had on saturday.
Thanks for clarifying. The main page of the site was a bit unclear about being thyroid hormone.
My symptoms (including hair loss) generally get worse or come back after I am stable on a dose for about 4-6 weeks. My new doctor says that, once we reach the right dose, I "should" see this happening less.
Also, have you been on any other version of levothyroxine? Could this one not be working well with your body?
They are Free T3 and Free T4. The references,are 4- 8.3 for free t3, 9- 20 for free t4 and 0.25- 5 for TSH. I got Thyrofit from my doctor but here, you dont have to have the prescription and its available in all pharmacies too.
My doctor thinks my hair fall could be because of hormones because my Menstrual cycle is irregular and my breast have been releasing a milky liquid lately. But i think those are all symptoms of Hypothyroidism. So do you think i should look for another cause?
What are the reference ranges for the T3 and T4? Are they "Free" T3 and "Free T4"? or are they total T3 and total T4?
It sometimes takes symptoms a while to catch up with blood work. Even after your hormone levels are right for you, your body still has to have time to get well.
I'm curious; I did a search for Thyrofit, as well, and from what I can find, this is still a levothyroxine sodium tablet, with ingredients extracted from herbs, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine. It appears that it's only available in certain parts of the world. Do you have to have a prescription for it, or can you buy it without a script?
The reference ranges are
Free t3- 4- 8.3
Free t4 9- 20
TSH 0.25- 5.00
thank u for the response.
yes it is herbal. But the new results look better but the symptoms are still there.
my free t3 is 5.46. t4 is13.25 and my TSH is 1.11. i took a new blood test on saturday and those where the results.
Before the medication, my T3 was 4.96, T4 was 12.36 and TSH was 7.21. I think thyrofit is also levothyroxine. I dont know why my hair is still falling out so much.
I just did a search on Thyrofit, and it looks like a herbal supplement for thyroid support, rather than thyroid hormone. Is this correct? If so, some people have worse symptoms after starting these type supplements. As it is not a thyroid hormone, it does not actually do anything to replace the hormone that is missing in hypothyroidism.
Please post your actual thyroid hormone levels, which should include TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, and possibly antibody counts.
I'm not familiar with thyrofit. Is that levothyroxine? It takes at least 4-6 weeks for the levo to reach full potential in your system; once that happens, it still takes time for your body to heal. It's not unusual for patients to report worsened symptoms after starting medication; your body has to get used to having hormones it's been doing without.
Also possible that you need an increase in medication, but we can't know that, without seeing your lab results and reference ranges.
