If its any consolation, I cannot handle my TSH being lower than 2.3 and higher than 3.0.
Some are comfortable with a low TSH...I am one of those who is not.
It is absolute he// being lower than 2.3 for me.
maybe you are the same???
I feel hyper symptoms when TSH is lower than 2.3 and many times my Doc has told me to stop the thyroxin for a day to get the TSH back up quickly rather than wait weeks for it to happen with a decrease in meds slowly.
I am not suggesting that you dont take your meds, but consult with your Doc and tell him that you feel hyper and would it be ok to NOT take a dose for one day and also cut down the dosage?
It is the FT3 which causes the 'hyper' symptoms so I would say that your FT3 is up a little too high for you.
You have all the symptoms of being overmedicated still. Do you have the actual numbers from your last labs...FT3 FT4 and TSH? Also need the reference ranges for FT3 and FT4. Your doctor is required to provide you with these if you request them.
It's perfectly reasonable to have labs drawn every six weeks until you stabilize your dose (which might take less than six months, and might take more). We so often hear that everything's "normal" or everything "looks great" only to find out that testing was inadequate (often TSH only), or reference ranges used were obsolete or both.
If you're feeling hyper, you really have to find out what your FT3 and FT4 are. Being hypo is no fun, but (in my opinon) being hyper or overmedicated is much more uncomfortable and unhealthy in the short run.
I am the same way... though I have hashi and are usually hypo.. though I was overmedicated in late march my tsh crashed and I had to cut back my meds to breathe.. I now are at 0.8 after being down on meds for over 6 weeks and I still feel hyper...and hypo at the same time, my anxiety levels is throughthe roof, panicy, not sleeping well, weak, fingers twitch, and loose stools. my stomach has that fright feeling! I am at wits ends to get this figured out!
Last time I spoke with the dr asst she said dr said everything looked great keep it up! well I dont feel great ! AT ALL!.. I want my labs pulled every 6-8 weeks for 6 months and she does not agree to this.. I just want the rollercoaster ride to stop.. up one minute then crash the next!
I feel if I get the standiing lab I can keep a better idea of what is going on, and where my levels are , so I can find that right amount of meds!!!!!!!!! That is the key to all of us here with thyroid problems...we just need to know of magic number and figure out how to keep it there!
I sure hope you get to feeling better soon, I understand if you need to chat email anytime! I love to have people to talk with that understand!!!!! good luck
Kelly
Sorry, I just saw the headline of the thread and realized your TSH was right up there, big as life. I had only re-read the body of the thread, not the headline.
I know after a TT many doctors want TSH close to zero. However, you can't just ignore hyper symptoms to get it there. I'd call him again and ask for FT3 and FT4 and let him know it's because you're absolutely miserable and can't deal with that for another couple of weeks. If he still insists this has to do with stress, I'd say something to the effect of, "Well, humor me, and order the FT3 and FT4 so we can eliminate thyroid as a possibility." Or not eliminate it, of course, but I wouldn't say that to him!
After my last meds increase (75mcg to 81.5mcg, which was not successful), I started having a lot of hyper symptoms...tachycardia, insomnia, anxiety, etc. When I called my endo, he advised me to stop taking anything for three days, then to resume my previous dose. I'm not advising you to do this, just letting you know how he handled overmedication. Has your doctor even told you what your TSH is?
I am currently taking Levothyroxin 0.150 mcgs. I was only taking half that for a while as I stated in first post. I didn't take any today. Don't know if that was a smart move.
I completely disagree with your doctor that TSH-only testing is sufficient for diagnosis and meds adjustments. I would strongly consider finding a new doctor. TSH TESTING is good and much improved over the last couple of decades. However, the fact remains that TSH is a very poor indicator of what your thyroid status really is. It is, after all, a pituitary hormone and many issues can get in the way of its being reliable.
Just my opinion as a fellow patient, but I'd run not walk away from a doctor who relied on nothing but TSH. Since it might take some time to find a new doctor, you might insist your current doctor order FT3 and FT4 since you have so many hyper symptoms. You really do need to know what's going on.
What are your thyroid meds currently?
When I called him and he told me everything in my labs fell within normal, I asked him to do the T3 and T4 so we could get a better idea of what is going on and he told me basically the TSH was good and if you don't feel well its got to be stress so take more bp meds etc. Of course i did not double up on those meds because I dont feel its necessary. Guess I should just find a Dr that will do the tests I ask or demand him to do them. He told me to wait 2 weeks and if I still dont feel then come see him again. In the mean time I feel I'm suffering with the trembling, palpatations weight loss, insomnia, etc. I appreciate your comments and will ask again for him to do FT3 and FT4.
It sounds like you're overmedicated. Did the doctor do free T3 and free T4 in addition to TSH? You should call him and find out. If he's just prescribing meds based on TSH, that could be your problem. You won't know until you get the results of FT3 and FT4.
What are you on for meds?
