Nervous

My thyroid was tested last week and I go in about an hour to hear the results of the test. I'm so nervous I feel like my heart is going to jump out of my chest! I've done a lot of reading this past week and am convinced it's my thyroid causing all my sypmtoms, but I am TERRIFIED the doctor will tell me nothing is wrong with me and to go home. I know I have these symptoms, and I certainly didn't imagine putting on 15 lbs. but I'm so nervous my levels will be within range and I will be dismissed. Thanks for listing...just need to share b/c I'm about to jump out of my skin!

I'm sorry, I didn't read your question right. The depo shot is for birth control. It's a shot you take every 3 months.

I have been suffering with thyroid symptoms for 9 months and getting Doctors to believe me has been hell, they try blaming it on depression etc., so I really understand where you are coming from feeling nervous about the results. I so wanted mine to show something up to prove them wrong. And this week finally, my results have showed a change! It's only a slight one, but it gives me something to go on. So I just wanted to say what everyone here has said to me which helped. And that is to keep on fighting to be heard. Because they are right. You know your own body better than anyone. If it doesn't feel right, then it's because something IS wrong no matter what your results say!

I'm convince it is the depo shot. It was the only thing that changed around the time I started having all the symptoms. If you know of anyone considering the shot, tell them to do research online and talk to people who have actually taken it...there are a lot of horror stories far worse than mine. I'm now a true believer in natural family planning...well, and I talked my husband into a vasectomy!!!

He never once touched my neck. I was surprised that he didn't at my first visit, and he didn't at this one either. He just said that everything was normal. Urg! I hate it. I took the Depo shot though and I SWEAR it's the cause for all of this. He agreed with me that it's possible, but said they just don't know enough about that shot. If it's the fact that the shot isn't out of my system yet, there's nothing he can do. Can't get it out of me, so he's treating my symptoms. I go back in two weeks and we'll see then how I feel. Either the Wellbutrin or Trazodone is making my face itch a little. Other than that, I don't feel quite as tired. I crash at 7pm rather than 11am! It's a wait and see game I guess.

Just to be sure do thyroid neck check, as thyroid disorders are not necessary reflected by the blood tests.

Well, all my levels were normal. I'm not positive, but I think my TSH was 1.9 and he said all the other values were normal as well. He gave me two antidepressants and sent me on my way! I'm not completely satisfied, but he was very sympathetic with me. He just said that he couldn't find anything in my bloodwork to indicate a thyroid issue. I'm to see him again in two weeks to update him. He gave me Welbutrin to take in the morning, and then another (can't think of the name) to take at night. Even though I sleep, he thinks I might not be getting good sleep. Oh, and according to his scale, I'd lost 2 lbs. from last week's appt. So my complaint of weight gain kind of seemed weird. He did say that Welbutrin has assisted some in losing weight, so we'll see. The problem is that I took Depo 6 months ago, and I truly believe it is the cause for all my problems. Unfortunately, doctors don't know much about that shot and we are all in the dark. It's a wait and see game I guess. Thanks for all of your support everyone! It's really helped.

Thanks so much! I'll post again later once I see the doctor. There could be something there, but just after reading so much about people being dismissed, I'm nervous.

Normal levels don't mean there isn't a problem.  You know yourself better than the doctors so don't let yourself be dismissed - be persistent!  Keep us posted!

Let us know how the appt went ok?  We'll be looking ... me, too, all dismissed as "normal" but after my thyroidectomy (partial) and controled TSH due to cancer the OTHER symtpoms went away that were orig. dismissed .. so be perisstent and let us know!
