New to Hypothyroidism

Hi everyone,
I just received my blood results back from the doc. My free T4 is .87 (in a 0.89 to 1.76 range) and my TSH 3rd Gen. is 5.26 (0.3 to 5.0 range). She prescribed me Levothyroxine, and after reading about this medicine, I hear so many people say they gained weight. What has been your experience? And what do my levels mean?
Thanks!

Thanks! I will be looking for an endo, as the lady I went to is only an LPN. I don't have insurance, so the ultrasound may be out. We will see what the endo says.

I have not gained weight on Synthroid (similar to Levo). It should help you lose weight once your FT4 and FT3 go up. The doctor should be treating your freeT4 and freeT3 to get optimum weight loss results and to alleviate hypo symptoms. She should also have run TGab and TPOab antibody tests to make sure Hashimoto's isn't to blame for the hypo condition. Also, I would request a thyroid ultrasound.
