Hi I am a mother of three boys and a wife to a great husband. For the past year I have been back and forth to the Dr to try to find a reason for the deep exhaustion, restless legs, itchy scalp, low ferritin levels, low vitamin D levels and multiple other symptoms. The Dr. is telling me that my labs are normal but she also is not recommending anything for a Ferritin level at 6 and telling me to just do over the counter vitamins. I have and for the past year I have seen no change in my iron or vit. D level.
So I just had my levels rechecked and wanted to get your thoughts prior to my appointment in March.
My Ferritin was 6
Did not get my vit. D rechecked
my FTI was 2.2
T3 uptake 31%
T4 - 7.1
TSH 1.489
I took these fasting and at 9 am.
I am on no medications am on a multi vitamin with iron and vit D
Its been frustrating as they have been wanting me to take antidepressants and saying that my symptoms that I am talking of are all from Depression. I do not struggle with Depression. So I hate going to the Dr. to hear that and have no confidence in what I am going to hear.

I am so glad I found this great resource. My TT surgery is next week, 2/4.
The information shared on this site will help me face the challenges of replacement therapy. I am already asking the Dr. questions and advised them I am not going to accept being kept in the dark.
I am taking the Thyroid Scale to my f/u appt and starting a diary/journal to record my test results and chart my symtoms/progress. I used one one years ago while caring for my mother and recommend it to everyone.

I am going to repost for you in the general area, too so it gets seen by more members. What was the orig Vit D # .. do you recall by chance?

You are right .. why take a depression med and use it like a band aid if you aren't depressed!
You may want to do a community search on depression thyroid and/or a member named applecore who has had been battling depression and tried many alternative approaches .. maybe PM her and let her know I sent you .. she's a great member who isn't posting too much as she's a bit better now :)

Thank you for reposting and your great help. I appriciate it. with the help of a nutritionist I was taking 50,000 iud of vit d and was able to get my Vit D level up to 31ng. My current Dr. stated that I could now just take a multi vit with D and Iron.

Hi there and welcome!
I highly suggest you go to the healthfood store and buy a food source iron supplement call Floridix (spelling?)....it is food source so it won't constipate you. A woman should be between 30-50 at her Ferritin level. Ferritin is your iron storage....ionized iron is your iron level in your blood. If your ferritin levels are that low, then your storage is that low.....probably why you feel so lethargic and rotten. Is your hair falling out too? Are you having dizziness? All iron deficiency symptoms.
Make sure the vit D you are taking is D3 form....you probably want to take 1,000 IU's per day.
Your TSH looks good, but you really need to have the other proper testing done for thyroid with the TSH: Free T3 and Free T4. I would also ask them to do some antibody testing for graves and Hashimoto's Autoimmune thyroid disease.

First - I have never used a forum or msg board before. Hope I am doing this right.
I had no idea I had a problem until I was diagnosed following an auto accident in October 2008. I had swelling in my neck they first thought it was a hemotoma. I went for the ultrasound and it was my thyroid. I have mutilnodular thyroid on the R side with the largest 8cm and two smaller ones @3cm. The L side is also enlarged but has no nodules. TT was the only option provided other than to just live with it but I am having trouble swallowing. If I try to talk while eating or drinking, I get choked. My voice is also getting progressively more horse in the evenings. My TSH was .0726 but I do not have my T3 or T4 numbers yet. I actually have low Cholesterol 132, HDL 67 & LDL 65.
I am also dealing with menopause and have had both hyper and hypo symtoms. I have had anxiety with heart palpatations on and off for 30 years. I have been tired and had trouble concentrating but just figured I am getting older and hit the caffeine and B12/B6 to keep up with the younger competition. I have been working 12-16hrs a day for the last few years trying to get a managment promotion. Black coffee and Diet Mountain Dew gave kept me going. I have also had night sweats, leg cramps, hypoglycemia and weight gain over the last few years.
My FNB was negative but I will feel better I get an all clear on the pathology report. Also the not fluid filled cyst, solid mass.
I have a General Surgeon and so far no Endo just my DO to f/u for replacement therapy.
It is definitely been a huge reality check and I am at the beginning of the journey.
I am sure I will have many questions and will be glad to use my experience to help others in the future.

What does TT mean? In one post I think it mean thyroid tracker.. in another post it was used in conjunction with surgery. Can you please explain the acronyms? I am able to look some of them up but.. not all :)

Thanks for welcoming the newbies to the forum. I have been having some strange neurological symptoms for the last 7 months. I have gone through all types of testing for MS and other auto immune diseases. The only bloodwork that has come up positive so far is Epstein Barr (very high titers, Low Vitamin D(70, and this week a TSI at 32. My neurologist has suspected Grave's Disease from day one, but my endocrinologist doesn't seem to embrace this idea. She didn't even call to go over the abnormal TSI test. My TSH is on the low normal side at 0.53 and my T-3 and T-4 are both normal. I have a thyroid scan and uptake scheduled this week and they are also going to check my adrenal function since my Prolactin is also elevated and has been since all of this started last summer. It is currently a 49. My endocrinologist was quick to put me on Bromochriptine, which I refuse to take yet until I can find out if this is a thyroid issue or not. I have an upcoming appt to see a rheumatologist who specializes in CFIDS/Fibro and I am also traveling 200 miles out of state to go to an LLMD. Right now, I am experiencing tremors, blurry/double vision sometimes, racing heartbeat, and other symptoms that go along with GD. I also have a mother who has GD, but yet, according to most of my physician, I am losing my mind.
