Please Help with Lab Results!

I had TT in 9/09 for Pap. thyroid cancer follicular variant.  Opted for use of Naturethroid for replacement after RAI in 11/09.  Have not been well since.  Goal of TSH suppression is <.05.  My lowest so far has been .59.  Got lab results the other day.  TSH high at 13.09, Thyroglobulin <.2 which is good.  Anti-thyroglobulin antibodies 27, Thyroglobulin Autoantibodies 31, Thyroid Peroxidase Autoantibodies 43.  Total T3  148, T4 4.6, Free T4 0.7, Free T3 3.8.  Why would my TSH be that high if T3 and T4 basically in range.   What do the antibody levels mean?  Would appreciate anybody's input.   Thank you.

Yes, it's true, after thyroid cancer, they want to suppress TSH as much as possible.  However, if you feel hyper (anxiety and palps) before reaching their target level, then you have choices to make...feeling well now vs. the possibility of recurrence.

All dessicated porcine products have the same T3/T4 ratio.  The only way to raise your FT4 without raising your FT3 is to add in some T4-only meds.  Some of our members do this with really good results.

I think a better balance of your FT3 and FT4 might make you feel better and make your doctor happier by lowering your TSH.  It might be worth a try...

Thank you for the response.  I have been reading a lot about TSH not being as important but Endo says with Thyroid Cancer the circulating Thyroid Stimulating Hormone can stimulate thyroid cancer cells which is why they shoot for almost total suppression.   Do you know of another Natural thyroid hormone that would have a lower T3 level.  When my TSH was .59 I was extremely anxious and having palpitations.

Your FT4 is below range...way too low.  Midrange is the target for FT4 until we find our individual comfort level, so you have a long way to go.  On the other hand, your FT3 is well up into the upper third of the range, which is good.  In order to feel good, both FT3 and FT4 have to be optimized.

TSH is the least important of the three levels, but it's most likely high because of your very low FT4 level.  Your TSH is telling you that your pituitary wants your thyroid (if you had one) to produce more T4.  Now you have to provide this through meds.

Naturethroid has a relatively high T3 content compared to its T4 content.  You might find that you have to add some T4-only meds to your regimen.

Your antibody levels look to be in range???  If you had an autoimmune thyroid disease before your TT, it appears that the antibodies may be going into remission, which they often do after TT and RAI.

Free T4 range is 0.8 to 1.8    Free T3 range is 2.1 to 4.2   Thank you.

Please provide your FT3 and FT4 ranges.  It looks like your FT4 is "in range", but probably very low in range???  If you provide ranges, I can be more specific.
