I should of detailed the question more... What I was trying to say is - If you still have thyroid function - will your thyroid become "dependant" on meds???
That answer is yes - maybe long term temporary
I said no because if your thyroid is working properly, you wouldn't NEED meds.
But then I'd have to agree with goolara as well.
Ooooh, stella, did you really think you gave me enough choices? LOL
I didn't vote because my answer is...yes and no. I'm going to be reincarnated as a politician in my next life!
Does your thyroid suppress itself...no. However, if you take replacement hormones, and they succeed in suppressing TSH, then, yes, your thyroid function is suppressed. On the other hand, if there are other issues, like mine, and replacement does not suppress TSH, then, no, your thyroid function is not suppresssed. Depends on TSH...
Yes, that is why levo is used to suppress a goiter. Your thyroid is allowed to rest and the swelling goes down.
Yes, thyroid med suppresses your natural thyroid function. If you go off med it takes a while for your own thyroid to start working again on it's own.
I will say yes as mine has come back to a normal range on the meds:)
My no answer is merely a guess ? I'm not sure at all.
