Sorry, another scar treatment question...

I am almost 4 weeks post TT. I put sweatproof/waterproof 30 spf on my scar this am before going out. When I got home I wasn't sure if I should try to wash off the spf and then massage the vit E oil or just massage in the vit E oil on top of the spf. For those of you who used vit E or something else, how did you coordinate it with spf application? Also, anyone try the Mederma with 30 spf? I looked at it today but whoa! $19 at Walmart. I keep reading that people have been very sensitive to Mederma so I'm not going to even try it for a few months anyway.

Thanks!
Sandra

I'd of never thought to use lib balm.  I always have it with me... : )  Awesome idea.

WOW .. a new Mederma with SPF in it .. that's new since 2.5yrs ago when I tried to use it!.  Not sure on the SPF one, but CVS or Walgreen's makes a knockoff brand that works, too, if you aren't sensitive to it.

I'd wash off and start from scratch so the Vit E absorbs.

I carried a lip balm with SPF in it all the time the first summer for quick little touch ups vs. a bottle of lotion.

Cool, thanks! I will put the oil on right after I shower and then wait a little while to put on the spf. Maybe I'll try Mederma after 6 weeks or so, still undecided...

I used the vitamin e oil from 10 days out to probably 4 or 5 weeks out, then I switched to the mederma.  I don't know that it does any better than the vitamin e oil...I just want the scar to go away fast as is possible and want to try everything.  I'm doing fine.  It's not as fast as I'd like, but its healing nicely and I got the kind of mederma without the sunscreen...Some sunscreens can burn or tingle uncomfortably on me.

Yes, wash off the sunscreen before applying anything else. There will be an invisible barrier so the Vit E will only sit on top of it and that will be a waste!
I had my surgery in summer too. I used to put my oil on straight after a shower. Then about an hour or so if I was going out in the sun put on the sunscreen. By an hour or so the oil is normally absorbed. Sunscreen tends to be a block so sits on the skin.
Also, use the same spf all over not just a  specific one for your neck.
Cheers!
