Forget the sledge -
I am to tired to swing the darn thing.
Round of applause for my buddy estrelinha
Coming to my rescue as usual :)
Well, must say something on this, International units is the scientific standardardization in reporting and the use of molar concentrations. Usually IU are in nmol/L (chemical compounds),. One mol of a molecule is "X" grams , that's how it works, it represent chemical species. Molar is mol/L of a chemical compound. The conventional units usually are in mg/L or micrograms/L. When we measure enzymes, activity of molecules, is what kitty said in her post, you can't convert IU in mcg, in other compounds you must see what is the IU of that compund. About the selenium AR-10 is right, perhaps the international units for selenium is μg , that's why it appears 200 μg or 200 IU.
LOL!!!
Get back to work.
I'm pretty good at checking tire pressure and oil levels...
I caused a thousand dollars of damage to our pastor's car one time. I filled his break fluid resevoir with power stearing fluid or transmission fluid and somehow trashed the computer, not to mention they had to purge all the brake lines.
Whoops!
GET THE SLEDGE HAMMER
THEN ALL WILL BE FINE.
Thanks for trying to clear that up, kitty. It is a bit confusing.
My mutivitamin has A, D, and E listed as so many IU. All the rest of the supplements are listed as mg or mcg.
I've only heard of selenium referenced by mcg until now. When estrelinha mentioned 200ug and Stella mentioned her bottle was 200IU, I guess I assumed they were all the same thing when speaking of selenium.
I hope I am not leading anyone astray here.
I wish we could have a "modify post" button!
Ok. You can sometimes convert mcg to IU, but it gets confusing.
Check this out:

" IU often can be converted to milligrams (mg) or micrograms (mcg). A microgram is one-one-thousandth of a milligram (most of us would have trouble understanding a dosage of "0.001 mg")."
It looks as though there is no conversion factor for mcg to IU.
A mcg is 1/1,000,000 of a gram.
This is what I found for IU:
"Note on International Units ( i.u. )
An old measurement of vitamin activity determined by biological methods as opposed to new measures that are determined by direct chemical analysis.
Many health foods and supplements still use i.u. ( IU ).
For Vitamin A, 1 i.u. = 0.3µg retinol, 3.6µg b-carotene, or 7.2µg other vitamin A carotenoids
For Vitamin D, 1 i.u. = 0.025µg cholecalciferol
For Vitamin E, 1 i.u. = 0.67µg natural a-tocopherol (different conversion factors are used for different forms of vitamin E) "

Pretty neat site for a nerd like me! :)
Literally I am comparing this car to a big - fat ( ablated :) - malfunctioning - thyroid case.
and as thyroid - it was family inherited - My brother - in law sold it to my son - "it'll run forever"
yeah right :(
( didn't even run right the first day it got parked in my driveway.)
Bring over your sledge AR - we will bang the heck out of it together!!
Great frustration release!
Check out the content of Brazil nuts.
I'm no mechanic. If you need any nuts rounded over or bolts broken, I'm your man!
I'll take a peek at it - but read the PM I sent you
The mechanic in me really seeks answers.

Here's some reading.
I really should change that statement in my last post to "With Selenium, 200mcg is 200IU, I THINK", because I am not 100% sure about that.
The saga continues..........
With Selenium, 200mcg is 200IU.
International units are determined by a bunch of people getting together and saying "this is a unit of selenium, and this is a unit of iron, and this is a unit of copper".
It might be a milligram or it might be a quart. In the case of selenium, one microgram is one International Unit.
Taking it can't hurt, unless you get carried away.
I thought I read close to that dosage just the other day - but the bottle I bought has 200IU in it.
Now I think the Hashi's is kicking in some lately - Just feel it - but can't explain it all - so maybe keeping it up is best?
I also started a progestrone cream that seems to really help out alot - but again - taking that - can require a decrease in thyroid meds too as far as from what I have read.
200IU is the suggested doseage.
Selenium is required to convert T4 to T3. If you are deficient and start taking it, you will convert T4 better. That may be why you are having to tweek your med dose, Stella.
You don't need to take 200IU a day, unless you are trying to lower your TPOab. I think the minimum daily requirement is around 60IU. My daily multivitamin has 105IU of selenium in it, which is 150% of the MDR.
But then I take two of them a day...
I have been taking that amout myself - It seems like I have to back off my thyroid meds though.
Must add: To lower the TPO antibodies (Hashi)
I've been taking 200 μg of selenium; it's what Dr. Lupo recommends (expert forum)
