I have just had one of the most depressing days ever in a hospital watching so called professional people playing doctors and nurses,
I am so fed up with all of it I came home and printed off six versions of a living will to send to all them,
my right arm is bruised from the shoulder to the finger tips, looks like internal hemorage again, every time I go to give a sample they totally balls it up, today is the very last time I have any more tests or treatment Period.
I will be taking all my unused scripts and tablets back to my GP soon, they should be happy from now on as I wont be costing them
I was incorrectly diagnosed and treated twelve years ago, and that I will never forgive anyone for I was suffering from anxiety and stress nothing else, and ended up being treated for a cancer that I didnt have cos they messed up in the pathlab, I seen the results as I took them from my casenotes, some one elses results, not mine, by the time it was found out my bodies immune system had been destroyed , I went down to six stone from fifteen, in weeks, lost my job partner home family, was threatened with being sectioned for not taking my med even tho it was basiclly killing me and was being passed around like guinea pig as they lot of them were clueless, if I could I would forcefeed them that muck and see what it does to their heads
I can understand your frustration pete but a lot of people DO need the T4 med as this regulates every organ in your bosy.
Yes a lot of Doctors do feed us cr@p but it is up to us to be proactive in our treatment and our research.
If you have had RAI that many times and you are on no medication and your bloods are good , then the RAI you did have has basically got your thyroid into controlling the right amount of thyroid medication and your thyroid still has function. The RAI has basically put a 'brake' on your hyperthyroidism.
This doesnt mean to say that the thyroid wont fire up again (which I hope it doesnt) but the same happened to my sister who has Graves.
She had RAI quite a few times to go 3 years without any meds whatsoever then wham! the thyroid completely died off and she is now on a T4 med.
Like you, she thought she wouldnt need meds for the rest of her life and was wrong.
So all I ask you is to keep getting those labs done on a regular basis.
If you can go the rest of your life without meds and levels being good then graet!
But dont be fooled that you will ALWAYS be like this.
I wish you all the best with your journey and hope that you have the sense to get levels done regulary,
All the best
Debs :)
The very worst thing I ever did was listen to a stupid doctor that messed up my body with all sorts of rubbish , I now have a thyroid that is ruined after seven lots of radiation doses and years of some cheap suppressor drug that made me go up to twenty stone, I have put up with the crap till now and have binned all my thyroxin junk I have taken none for almost two years and my blood tests come back fine the doctor thinks I take my scription and he is doing a good job, total rot, when I took that crap all I wanted to do was hit people and scream my heart was rattling and I had to wear a heart monitor for weeks, I had more side effects and problems when I was taken corrective treatment, I was in fact suffering from job related stress, I now have zero faith in quacks and visit only to see them make fools of themselves
The drop from 250mcg to 150mcg is a very large decrease and you will soon feel very hypo.
I would only stay on this dose for 4 days at most.
Then slowly increase by 12.5mcg weekly until you are at a level you feel comfortable with.
If the palps come back then decrease by 12.5mcg.
Thats the way I have done mine from day one and feel really good.
Going too hard , too fast is no good...and as a Nurse you will know your own body better than anyone.
Good luck :)
Hi, I know what you're going through. I am 50yr old, had my thyroid removed last year and having regular blood tests. My last one was 3 months ago and my thyroxine was increased to 250mcg. As I am a nurse, and was feeling unwell, an ECG revealed I was throwing ectopic beats, this scared me, I was put in hospital for a couple of days to have tests done. My echo came back clear, now I have to have a perfusion scan. I am confident that my symptoms are from too much thyroxine, I have decreased my dose to 150mcg to see if these awful symptoms subside.
Hi. I know it must be scary for you, but you will be ok if action is taken to correct this. I was in the same boat just a few months ago. I had rapid, hard heartbeats along with other scary things happening to me. My dosage needed to be stopped entirely for one week and I had to start again at a lower dose. Some people are okay just cutting back to a lower dose after being overmedicated. As long as you don't continue taking this "too high" of a dose, your symptoms should subside.
Hang in there. If you are having a hard time with this doctor, or he leaves you in doubt, it may be time to get your lab results and office records and find a more compassionate and knowledgeable doctor.
Wish you well,
Karly
As your body ages (you don't want to hear that!) your thyroid hormone needs decrease.
The best way to scare your doctor into action is;
Ask for a copy of the blood tests that show you are "OK". They are yours, not his. When were the tests run? a week ago? A year ago? Ask for TESTS! If you haven't had any lately, demand them.
Then take them home and study them. Find out what your levels are, and what it means. It probably means he is running poor tests, for one thing. Find out what your levels are SUPPOSED to be, and then go back and educate the man.
He will either listen to you, or brush you off again.
At least YOU will know more about your situation, and can hopefully find a doctor that will treat you properly.
