Vitamin D make your heart race?

I'm not sure if you are familiar with me, but I have recently had the joy of being diagnosed with hashitoxicosis as I am both hypo and hyper.  My parathyroid test came back a little odd.  3 endos swore to me that it has nothing to do with my parathyroid, and I am just deficient in vitamin d, 2 have told me D would not be good and it is my parathyroid.  I will post the results. I have been trying to take vitamin D because I am extremely deficient.  Every time I take it however my heart rate races uncontrollably a few hours later.  I even tested it and a few days without it and my heart rate was very low (too low even).  I took it again last night and when I stood up getting out of bed my heart rate shot up to 130+.  I don't know what to do.  I have tried this at least 4 times all with the same result.  My mom asked my grandma's endo and he recommended I take 8 (50,000's) in one day and be done with it for the year and only be sick one day.  I have only been taking 1000 to test it out and its doing this, much less that.  I think it would kill me.  I have bee swinging hyper and feeling hyper a lot so I'm not sure if its making me hyper, or if I really do have a parathyroid problem.  The parathryroid does cause vitamin d problems.  Dr. Lupo on here said my parathyroid did indicate primary hyperparathyroidism, but my endo assures me it is not.  I don't know what to believe.  Here is the results:
my vitamin D is only 11 (should be greater than 30). My pth intact was 52 (normal 14-72). My calcium was 10 normal (8.5-10.1).  Thanks for the help!

This sounds like my health situation...or lack of health.  I for one dont understand why beta blockers are necessary when thyroid is supposedly in check.  Any latest results?

I know Nat.  Nothing is ever easy in my body.  I can't be hypo or hyper I have to swing back and forth between both so it's hard to diagnose.  I have a multinodular goiter, but when I went to get the biopsy, the nodules disappeared.  It grows and shrinks.  My antibodies come and go.  Now my parathyroid is just bad enough to be weird, but not bad enough to know for sure.  UGH.  Can't anything be easy?

Hmmm....sounds like you're in quite an awkward position at the moment.

Endo is telling you that you're hyper when you're actually not...has he paid any attention to your latest bloods??   Does he have any explanation of how your calcium has changed over the past few months when it went up and the previous test was a little low?

Sorry you've been having a tough time with endo's....It's not fair!

I just sent my endo an email explaining about Dr. Norman's site and what Dr. Lupo told me.  He told me again he doesn't think I have anything wrong with my parathyroid and to take vitamin D tablets instead of drops and to increase my beta blocker.  He said that heart racing is due to hyper thyroid, BUT I am not hyperthyroid at the moment.  In fact I was normal for the first time in 7 months and I have felt better.  On days without the vitamin D my heart rate has been going TOO LOW, much less increasing the beta blocker.  UGH.  I am just sick of endo's.

Thank you red.  I have went to that website and Dr. Lupo also told me that vitamin D would not be helpful.  I went to 2 endocrinologists here and both told me that it was NOT my parathyroid and that I really needed vitamin D so I wanted to try it.  Then my mom asked my Grandma's endo and he too said it was not my parathyroid so I thought I might be on the right path.  The parathyroid website and Dr. Lupo however made me really question things.  THEN, with taking the vitamin D I started keeping track of how it made me feel.  Even sitting in the sun for vitamin D caused my heart to race.  I have tried this about 7 times now, so I know it's not a fluke.  I definitely need more calcium tests.  I just hope they are willing to give them to me since they do not think it is that.  I'm gonna call my doc on Monday and tell him what is going on.  I also had HORRIBLE gerd and muscle pain today too.  I can barely move my shoulders and upper back.  This was after only 1000 vitamin D.  I can't imagine what would have happened if I took the 50,000.  Ironically gerd is also a side effect of high calcium so I really think the D is doing this.  Thank you for the reply.

Hi, I have to inform you that it is not the Vit D causing you to have a racing heart. Vit D just doesn't do that. It is highly likely what is happening is that your calcium levels are shooting up as a result of taking the Vit D and THAT is giving you the heart racing. Your PTH is normal but your calcium is on the higher side.
Did they do a blood serum or urine sample to look at the calcium? Also it needs to be Corrected Calcium not just total calcium. The difference being is what is being stored and what is actually in the blood. There is a HUGE difference.

Just to clarify, even though the parathyroids have the word thyroid in it, they have nothing to do with the thryoid. They just sit on the thyroid. The word means 'beside the shield'  (thyroid means shield) For some weird reason no one ever named them of their own title!
They cannot influence the thyroid hormones. Their role is to regulate calcium and need Vit D to do that.  So if you have a higher calcium and low Vit D there is something wrong in the feedback loop of the parathyroids and the gut and the blood and bone release of calcium. Taking more Vit D is going to be detrimental. Odd, hey!

I have added a site which is very good in explaining parathyroids.

My endo had also prescribed the 50,000, but I agree with you about not taking it.  That is why I tried the 1000 first.  Thanks for your input.

Number One, I certainly would not take 50,000. If you are allergic to (or intolerant of) vitamin D that dosage could kill you. An alternative MD can test you for vitamin D allergy or intolerance. He can also cure you of it with kinesiology.
