What kind of disorder is this?

Hi,
I am 29 year old female who initally started having thyroid issues 14 month ago after birth of my daughter.  I went into hyperthyroid (TSH less then  0.01) (T3 and T4 within normal range but hight normal) couple of months later I went into Hypo stage (TSH 15 and T3 and T4 normal low range)  Over next year my TSH went down to normal couple of times and then back up to 6, 7 range. ( in between 4 and 7)  I have tryed meds (eltroxin and syntroid) couple of time but have severe side effects such as headache that come and go, and general nervousness, poor concentration, foggy mind. ( I am a nurse and absolutelly cant work with all this going on in my head) Med symptoms usually stard 2-3 day and soon after I get off meds because I cant do much)  I would like to know because i am going up and down am i still in post partum thyroditis or do I have something else.  My doc said that TSH 6 is not bad and to stop coming so much.  I am seeing endo in June.  I am so desperated because I can alway tell that my Tsh went up because i usually have night sweats, and couple of day extreme fatigue. I was tested for autoimmune disorder and everythig was normal  I dont know where to go from here, I also have very dry eyes which started when i initially went into hypo stage.  Why am i going up and down.  It just doesnt seem normal to me. Please help!

Thank YOu

I never in my wildest dreams thought this could happen to me.  I went into hyper stage 2 months post partum (around the same time i stopped breast feeding), 3 months later I was in hypo (TSH 15)  ( I could not get out of bed after 12 hours sleep, absolute exhaustion) Slowly over next could of months I was back to normal.  Since august of last year it ranges between 4 and 6.  My T3 and 4 always in normal range (low normal).  I had ultrasound done, no nodules.  Usually i have an episode that goes like this... i wake up soaking wet and extremely hot.  This is followed by couple of day of fatigue.  I had blood work to rule out autoimmune disorders (as with hypo stage I have dry eyes during the night-so dry cant open my eyes in the morning)  This blood work came back negative. Health care in Canada is free so they run tests no problem. I have BW done very often probably 5 times in the last 6 months.(Always everything normal) One thing was unusual, when I had initial stage I also had elevated liver enzymes as well and was told its due to pregnancy weight gain (25lb) These enzymes went back to normal over couple of months, but this all started at the same time, and somehow I thought it was related but I never found anything to support that.  I even went as far as getting a ct scan of head, ( i just did not know what to do) I feel like my body is falling apart.  My doc is just annoyed with me and stated TSH of 6.8 is not bad, some people have 68. With meds i develop following side effects headache, (off/on all day long, fogy head, poor concentration, even little paranoia ) my start dose has been 0.025. (which i know is very small) I would love to take meds and feel better. People have even asked me if I have post partum depression. (I get so mad because my life has never been better)  I just want my old body back.  I am being brushed off as this is minor thing and I am making a big deal of it.  I am a nurse and have talked to tons of people regarding this and no one knows what to tell me.  I am seeing  endo in June right on my birthday and believe me its the best present I could get.  I have started a diet two weeks ago, almost no carbs and minimal dairy (1tbs milk). (Dr Bernstein).  I get B6/12 -3 times a week.  Hoping to do for 6 weeks.  How does selenium supplement help.

Post-partum ("silent") thyroiditis is usually characterized by an initial hyper phase, followed by a temporary hypo phase, but not fluctuations.  However, this "temporary" hypo phase can become permanent or can last for months or even years.

Have you had a thyroid ultrasound to check for nodules?  Some types of nodules can cause the sudden release of hormone causing hyper periods alternating with hypo.

What dose of Eltroxin and Synthroid were you on as an initial dose.  Was your dose ever adjusted, or were you just unable to tolerate it and stopped taking it completely?

seems like it's related to having had your baby. i hope your endo has some answers. the fluctuating changes are heII. could you cut back on wheat and dairy, and see if this helps give your immune system a bit of relief. i also use a selenium supplement which i think has helped. maybe also get another dr - your dr is treating your numbers, not how crappy you feel. this could take a few goes but would be worth it. sorry no one has answers yet - it's very complicated.
