hey Shane, I just had two surgeries to remove all of my Thyroid due to pappilary cancer.
I had my last surgery on 3/6/09. After the surgery you will need to speak to a doctor that will administer the radiation treatment. Mine will be done on April 3rd. Bad thing is you will not be able to take Thyroid medication for about 2-3 weeks before the radiation treatment, so you will swing to Hypothyroid (which is what they want before radiation) then after that, you will be put back on thyroid meds about a week after.
From what the Radiologist told me, for males as young as you and I (I will be 26 in June) the recovery rate is really good. Only thing we have to worry about is if the cancer has spread, which they will monitor.
I havent been told that I have a low rate of survival or anything, only parts that suck is the month or so without Thyroid meds, then after the radiation, I cannot be around my pregnant wife for at least 5-7 days.
I appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.
Just saw your topic, sorry if i have no advice. Just wishing you well with your surgery and recovery.
