Is it the right treatment

I am 50 female lab results are TSH 0.10 rng 0.30-5.00  T4Free 1.2 rng 0.8-2.2
T3Free 4.52 rng 1.7-3.7  Been diagnosed as Hyper
after going the endo he has scheduled RAI and treat with I-131.  I have not had any other test, just blood work and a physical. Have lots of symptoms, from not being able to sleep but 3 -4 hrs at a time, weight gain, hair loss, muscle aches, foggy, difficult time swallowing, and so on. The question is, Is the treatment, the right treatment?

Oral meds would usually be first line before RAI, which is permanent.

Oral meds can sometimes work well, if the hyper is transient and your does seem fairly mild.

Do get a second opinion.

That seems like a hasty decision on your docs part without first trying the meds first. I think I'd run if my doc suggested RAI right off the bat!

Are you already on thyroid med? If so, what med, at what dose?  Have you been tested for antibodies (TSI for Graves Disease - hyper; TPOab and TGab for Hashimoto's Thyroiditis - hypo)?  These are both autoimmune diseases in which antibodies eventually destroy the thyroid, preventing it from producing the hormones your body needs.

Your symptoms seem to be more on the hypo side........... but of course, that doesn't always mean anything. In my opinion, you need more tests before undergoing something so permanent as RAI.  An ultra sound would be useful to check for nodules that could be "leaking" hormone irradically and could be making you swing between hyper and hypo.  This is common with Hashimoto's.

I agree with Laura - get another opinion.

I would research it well, and possibly get a second opinion if you are uncomfortable with your doctor's diagnosis.
