Done with surgery...thanks again everyone!

Woo hoo.  I made it.  My temperature was just where it was supposed to be.  However, the surgeon ended up taking a LOT more out than he initially thought he was going to and the surgery took twice as long so my poor husband and 24 year old daughter were freaking out.  I'm waiting, of course, for the pathology to come back to see how much of what he took out was cancerous.  It's so weird going through this again after 22 years.  The scar is exactly the same size as it was the first time, but at least this time, no ugly staples.  Just the steri-strips.  Even though none of this showed up on a WBS they want to try a large dose of RAI as well, but I can't do that until at least August as I had a CT with contrast in March.

Anyway, sorry if I'm rambling.  It's 5am, and I've been up since 8pm.  I haven't had any drugs since 6pm because they made me really nauseous and actually, I'm not having all that much pain.  I'm guessing that could change tomorrow, but for now I'm doing well.

Thanks so much for all the support!

My fingers are definitely crossed.  My scars too, lol.

There is definitely a wait recommended after a CT with iodine contrast.  How much of one differs from doc to doc, of course.  I think the general recommendation is that your iodine is below 100 ummm, whatever the measurement is, I'm not sure.  Maybe someone smarter than me here knows that.

My throat seems a bit swollen today.  I think I might have overdone it yesterday, but I really felt pretty good, so that's totally my fault.

Oh, I forgot to mention this....did anyone hear about the earthquake in the midwest?  That happened only about 130 miles from my house.  The earthquake was around 4:38am the morning of my surgery and measured a 5.2 on the richter scale and the biggest after shock was actually during my surgery!!!  It measure 4.6.  My 24 year old daughter and husband who were in the waiting room felt it.  I wonder if THAT's why the doctor ended up taking out more than he thought, hahahahaha.

I'm so glad that everything went so smoothly.  Welcome to the TRIPLE smile club of those of us who are either slow learners or just like the surgery so much we have it twice.   Yeah, they put my second scar right over the first one and it healed very nicely.

Fingers crossed that the cancer was contained.  Yeah, the RAI is a wise choice since you've had a recurrence.  So there is a 6 month wait between contract medium and RAI?  Good to know, I'm trying to get an abdominal CT scheduled and I'm going to press for them NOT to do contrast then.  :-/

Keep us posted and I'm glad you are doing so well.
